Because whoever he fights will come out unscathed, no matter the result. This means a quicker turnaround, more title fights.

He's probably the contender most likely to get first round TKO'd if he loses and he's definitely the contender to inflict the least damage if he wins.

Worried it will be boring? His most likely way of losing will be by spectacular KO / viscious ground and pound.

What are you all so afraid of?

Demian Maia, Welterweight titleshot - book it!

UFC Champs don't roll that way. They take a vacation after title defense and don't fight for another 6 months.

I can't remember the last time we had a fighting champion.

Maia has only been knocked out one time early in his career. He's not so susceptible to getting rocked as you claim.

Anyway I hope he gets a title shot he could definitely beat lawler with a sub. But either way I don't think Maia is well rounded enough to be a long lasting champion so although I'm a fan, I don't think he's good enough.

I thought the reason was going to be so lawler knocks him back to middle weight

Doesn't Mighty Mouse fight very often? I never watch any of his fights though.

Lawler has unbelievable takedown defense
He would keep it standing and smash Maia imo

...or Maia submits him back to middle weight. Doubt it? See Jacare vs Lawler. The fight is 50/50, we should want to see who can impose their game plan, this is what MMA is all about imo.

Maia would dominate Lawler and would make it look easy. There would be no fifth round Robbie, just survival Robbie flat on the mat

Would love to see Maia fight for the title because I think he would win it and I have liked him ever since he subbed Sonnen.

I'm not sure I've seen someone on sherdog want someone to have a title fight for this reason... Seems surprising now.

Maia WW champ in 2017
believe it

Seriously .. I say strip champs of their title after 135 days. IF you get injured and can't recover fast. then ur stripped and fights go on. history is made. instead of fighters sitting on a belt and ,making money off of stupid ads and commercials.

At least Maia hunts for a finish. I'd rather watch a bjj specialist than a lay-n-pray wrestler any day of the week.

Maia will never be champ because his cardio is always starting to go around round 3. He's not made for 5 rounders.

Wow, Robbie is a tought mofo.
Everytime you see Maia rolling on the mat, controlling fighters like a boa, you KNOW that he is on another level at the ground game, you just KNOW he will control the back of his adversary and slowly moving towards a finish.
Have no idea how he can stop Robbie's power. In the stand up, Maia has no chance. On the mat, Robbie has no chance.
It would be an awesome fight, opposing two very different fighters.

I really like Maia . sad most of you don't

I love BJJ so I have respect for Maia's ability. But that doesn't mean I have to like him. He's an extremely boring one dimensional fighter.

Versus a strong sprawler, Maia will eat fist. I don't mind his fights, like someone else said I would rather watch him put a bjj clinic on someone than a wall-n-staller. He's too one dimensional to be champ and needs a top 5 win to earn a title shot.
