Donnie Yen Fights Mike Tyson in First US Trailer for IP MAN 3

Back in March, it was reported that the long-awaited Ip Man 3 is finally moving forward, with Donnie Yen returning to star as the title character, and heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson also coming aboard. Today, MovieClips has the first US trailer for this highly-anticipated sequel, with Well Go USA setting a January 22, 2016 release date. Ip Man 3 will be going up against Dirty Grandpa and The Boy in its new release date.

Back in March, it was revealed that the producers had planned on using a CGI version of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee, which certainly caused some controversy. Just one week later, it was reported that Bruce Lee's estate was trying to stop the production from using this CGI version. While there is no update about the lawsuit filed by Bruce Lee's family, the film's IMDB page lists Kwok-Kwan Chan (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) as portraying Bruce Lee, so it seems that both sides came to some sort of an agreement.

The sequel co-stars Lynn Hung, Jin Zhang, Patrick Tam, Kent Cheng, Meng Lo, Ka-Yan Leung and Karena Ng. Wilson Yip, who directed the first two Ip Man movies, returns to direct. Mike Tyson is playing the substantial role of a property developer who moonlights as a vicious street fighter. Ip Man 3 opens in Hong Kong on December 24, 2015.

Donnie Yen Fights Mike Tyson in First US Trailer for Ip Man 3

I'm still trying to figure out how exactly does Tyson fit in to the Ip Man story, beside the obvious answer of ; "dude, who gives a shit it's Tyson vs Donnie Yen".

The same way RZA fit into Man with the Iron Fists?

I'm excited and confused on why the hell Tyson's in Ip Man 3 but it's doing it's job in attracting me to watch it

He a black man who feels disenfranchised in the white man's world so he goes to China, and see what is up. Finds a fighting tourney, and thinks he can dominate little chinese men.

I got Tyson via his famous the Holyfield finishing move.

I thought it was the trailer I saw yesterday but it's different.

SICK!

I can't wait to see this. Also at 10 seconds into the trailer is that suppose to be Bruce Lee? I looks like he same actor in Shaolin Soccer that was the goalie that played a Bruce Lee imitation because he sorta looks like him.

Anyway I'm Pumped for this!

Love Asian fight tournament movies. Hopefully Tyson pull off a live action Balrog.

I don't have high hopes. First Ip Man was aight. Second one was dumb. I thought Donnie Yen and Sammo Hong would do something incredible, but that table-top fight was wack. Has Tyson done any fight choreography before?

The Ip Man films weren't exactly historically accurate, so Mike Tyson doesn't really bother me. I watch these to be entertained, not informed.

Ha the whole donnie yen movies were made up nonsense. I think it was 2 that ripped off the entire story from rocky so why not have mike tyson in it. Throw in some ninjas and robots while they are at it.

It would be funny if they actually portrayed Yip as he really was ie a surly shit talking opium addict instead of this wise mr miyagi type.

Also on a related note i found the "grandmaster"yip man movie to be alot more entertaining than the Donnie Yen movies.

Bro, do you even bob sapp?

This is the 3rd movie. Will they finally show him getting bankrupt because of his opium addiction?

This version of Ip Man doesn't follow the actual Ip Man biography. I'm sure you already know that before your post. Also Ip Man 2 already shown him being bankrupt due to WW2. If anything The Grandmaster starring Tony Leung as Ip Man MIGHT be a movie slightly more based on Ip Man life. I use the word MIGHT.

As for Ip Man 3, I'm curious if it's dubbed or subbed version you guys get in US?

Ip better go for takedowns. Tyson isnt very good off his back.

So is doing Ip man films the new fad in hiog kong films?

in the last 6 or so years we have:

3 Donnie Yen films.
The grand master.
Ip man legend is born and IP man the final fight.

More like 3-4 years ago, I think the Ip Man movie trend has died down because HK cinema people including Donnie Yen called out the fact that there's to many movies about him and frankly they're pure shit. I remember seeing one called Ip Man Legend is Born, it starred a few people from the Donnie Yen films but it was so goddamn ridiculous I don't even know what it had to do with Ip Man. It was like some shit ass story about Ip Man's brother being a Japanese spy and the Japanese sending babies and little to China as spy cells. Midway the director must have said hey this film sucks let's try to make some money off it at least by naming the main character Ip Man and having it in the movie title...

Before Ip Man it was movies/tv shows about Wong Fei Hung.

It is, Hong Kong is sort of following the Hollywood way since 2000s. As long as the box office is good for the first film, a sequel will be announced shortly. It's not that common before 2000s, at least sequels are not so quick to be confirmed.

Donnie Yen actually wanted to stop filmimg action films after Ip Man 2 citing that he is getting old and too many injuries. But I guess the money is good to continue because he went on to star in at least five action movie after Ip Man 2.

It's probably more on producers wanting to cash in as much as possible on Donnie Yen fame before he really quit. He have another action film call "Ice Man" that is split into two parts before the first film is even in theatre.

The first Donnie Yen Ip Man film was great, not so sure about the sequel. I'm still looking forward to this though I'll go in with lower expectations that when I watched the second film.

Holy crap, Donnie Yen vs Mike Tyson!!!!
