I tried searching to see if anyone else asked about this but didn't see anything. Like most young adults living on their own trying to get by, the question of making extra cash is something that I think about a lot. I've been hearing a lot about donating plasma. Donating twice a week can get you like $60. I'm sure there are side effects.

My question is has anyone here donated and how does it effect your training? I train 4-5 days a week and I don't want to donate plasma if it's going to make me feel like shit at the gym. I've searched google and stuff but I'd rather hear it from someone who actually trains to give me an idea of how it'll effect my performance. Thanks.

Honestly, you will feel like shit in the gym. I have donated blood and a few times and it always wrecks me for the next 24+ hours. I am pretty sure that if you donate twice a week you will not be able to train 4-5 times pre week.

You crazy Americans... actually getting paid to donate blood. All I get is a cookie and a glass of juice

Donating plasma is wildly different from donating whole blood.

There was a plasma place right down the street from my freshman dorm. A bunch of guys on my hall would donate all the time for beer money. I want to say they commented on being fucked up for a bit. One of the guys on my hall went along one day having never donated before. He freaked out and ran out before they got the needle in his arm.

I was under the impression that I could not donate blood or plasma due to the meds I took for plasma. I have since learned that I probably can. But I still don't.

I've donated whole blood the same day I train muay thai and never had a problem. Maybe it varies from person to person but I think you should be good to go within a matter of a couple hours at most, especially if you've eaten a full meal before donating.

Plasma? Why don't you donate some man juice...that's pretty much a win-win situation.

As a new donor I got $50 for each of the two times I went. I was still recovering from a wrist injury so my right wrist had a ton of inflammation in it. They stuck the needle in my right arm and an hour later there was no pain in my wrist because all the inflamed blood had been taken out and new blood was being created. Plus, they have to give you a physical before you donate, so it's a free physical.

the thing about plasma is that they replace most of the blood during the process. In college, I went to football practice and film in the morning, then me a buddy went to centeon bio to sell plasma, then went to practice again. I don't remember having any problems with it. got our $26 dollars and everything. bought a case of beer and a frozen pizza with it.

inflamed blood?

Inflammation is a physical state (higher temperature, more blood flow etc.), you can have an infalmmed wrist area, but not inflammed blood.

You could have infected blood though, but that's a bad thing. An inflammation is a good thing (in the long run, as it helps you know that you are hurt and it helps with the healing).

Assuming it's not excessive. Excessive inflammation impedes bloodflow, and interferes with waste being taken away from the inflamed area.
