Usman has been nothing but impressive since he became a champ at WW.

Destroyed Woodley, who was a long reigning champ with 4 title defenses. Won every second of that fight and 50-44 on the judges scorecards.

Fought perhaps the best cardio machine at WW in Colby Covington and showed his championship heart. One of the best championship fights in UFC history. Top 5 imho.

Beat a savage knockout artist in Masvidal. BMF champion. Accepted the fight on 6 days notice. Boring fight? Yes. But all champs have that boring fight in their career.

Possibly his best win yet is Burns. A BJJ 2nd Dan Black Belt who won ADCC gold and has super heavy hands.

George’s St Pierre obviously has more title defenses, but it took him just 4 wins to get the title fight whereas it took 9 for Usman. Not to mention he has some title defenses against ‘questionable challengers’ in Dan Hardy, Diaz, Koscheck. His only huge important wins are BJ and Jake Shields.

What is your opinion on this matter?

The collective resume of the entire crop of "elite WWs" in modern day hinges on wins over RDA and Demian Maia. Both of these guys are extremely weak to wrestlers and wins over them doesn't make you a top guy (despite the marketing saying so). Objectively, I seriously don't see anything special going on at WW currently and find it laughable that every current champ suddenly becomes "the GOAT".

LHW has a similar issue with guys racking up wins over Jimi Manuwa and Volkan Oezdemir which apparently makes you a top 5 guy in modern day :rolleyes::rolleyes:.

Edit: LMFAO @ trying to use the "BMF title" as some sort of proof of Masvidal's credibility. The guy has been in the UFC for 8 years and has never strung together more than 3 consecutive wins... TS clearly has watched MMA for less than 2 years <Lmaoo>

Koscheck was a good win for GSP, what are you on about?

Usman is slowly but steady getting there, but GSP's resume still trumps that of Usman, as of now.

Weird Sherdog pastime/trend: exaggerating a fighter's stature based on a recent victory.

I like Usman, but it's silly to compare what he's accomplished at this point with GSP's greater accomplishments over a longer period of time.

This trend or pastime leads to multiple threads saying almost the same thing, which is going on right now with Usman.

Also, going crazy over a particular fighter often serves to generate antagonism towards him or her, thereby doing them an unintentional disservice.

absolutely. he doesnt have any filler bs on his resume like georges. Hardy, Alves, Serra, old Hughes and out of weight class Penn are not legacy wins. Sheilds and Fitch are his best wins. Condit and Diaz are good wins.

Usman has beaten Woodley who SHITS all over anyone on Georges's win list at time of fight. Hes beaten Mas who is better than condit and diaz but kind of on that level and hes beaten colby, maia, Leon and Burns all of whom SHIT all over any of georges' wins. Hes already eclipsed georges imo.

Yes. His resume is better. Not really a debate. Usman smokes every single fighter on gsp resume. Including bisping. And wouldnt need two fights to be a unranked matt serra.

usman lost at the same age GSP lost. GSP was just fighting in the ufc against a decent fighter in matt serra.

usman lost to some nobody

No, stop. I know everyone is anxious for the next big thing that they want to rush history but he's not there yet. Both Usman and Adesanya have work to do to catch up to GSP and Silva talks.

Every time either Usman or Adesanya win a fight there will be a new breed of A.D.H.D threads that want to rush them to the greatest of all time talks.

I disagree. Yes the BMF title is a made up belt but the meaning behind it has some significance. Masvidal completely turned his career around in just one year and managed to KO guys extremely hard to knockout like Till and Diaz. Not to mention he took the 0 from Askren. You pathetic hardcores we’re talking about him having a chance against Khabib <45><45>
