Does the UFC have scouts?

I'm sure they have staff monitoring every organization good enough to be considered a feeder, and fighters probably contact the UFC.

I'm just guessing.

I can't name a specific instance, but I recall several interviews where fighters would mention they knew beforehand or afterwards that there were UFC scouts (or Joe Silva)

How about you scout my balls. Jk but seriously I assume they do also camps play a factor like with cain he got in the ufc bc his camp convinced joe Silva he was legit with only 2ppl pro fights. Oh and youtube the other 99%

I doubt they have much in the way of a scouting network simpley because of the way they do business, pretty much everyone with potential who gets signed up to the UFC does so after becoming pretty well known in MMA circles if indeed they werent before from achievements in other sports/MA's.

MMA is I'd say very different from most sports in that respect, because fighters are not generally tied down to a single promoter or team theres little incentive for the UFC to "get there first" when they can have someone else do the groundwork and then move in and profit from it.

I would think so, I'm sure that the UFC isn't paying guys to go watch every little org and to evaluate there fighters, but probably if a fighter is getting a lot of buzz around his name then the UFC probably sends out one of their guys to see how legit the fighter actually is.

People do get scouted, while I was living in Texas there was two who came down to watch some guy who trained out of a gym in Dallas that I knew, but most o the time it is through the UFC contacting gyms and asking if they happen to have UFC calibre fighter at X weight class. UFC calls up ATT for instance and goes do you have a guy who can make 155 in a month on short notice to fight so and so, and they get a response, UFC debut.

i think in the last press conference when asked about Mexico Dana said he had some people heading there to scout some fighters for the new TUF season they plan on making

I would think that a lot of these smaller organizations and gyms would be placing phone calls and sending tapes. for a small regional promotion having a fighter make it to the big show that came through your organization can be a big boost
