Does the cut to 205 affect DC more than anyone thought?

DC has a great clinch and dirty boxing, we all knew that. He did great work there against Gus, Bigfoot, Barnett, pretty much anyone not named jon Jones. But after seeing what he did to stipe and landing some very good uppercuts in the single collar tie against gustaffson and coming nowhere close to finishing him there was an eyebrow raiser.

Sure gus has a granite chin but stipes been taking heavyweight punches his whole career. He got put away by struve but I believe that was more from exhaustion than a weak chin. We've seen him take shots from guys like JDS and Reem and his chin held up well. But DC put one on his chin and it was lights out.

DC also seemed to eat stipes punches like some Popeyes chicken and stipe is known to have 1 punch ko power. Yet we saw Jones put DC away with strikes and Gus and rumble both had him pretty hurt in their fights.

Does that extra 40 pounds help DC that much? And do fights with Jones and gustaffson go differently at heavyweight?

The cut definitely seems to greatly diminish DC's power.

Im sure he might hit a bit heavier at HW, but he didn't KO Stipe with power, it was skill and speed, Stipe didn't see it coming and it hit the right spot from the right angle. Nothing to do with great KO power, which DC does not have.

I thought that DC was going to lose this, but i ever said LHW DC looked shit compared to the HW one

Jones put him down with a kick from Hell that D.C. leaned right into, so I don't blame the cut for that. He's taken some nasty shots and kept coming at 205, and that was just the one that did the trick.

He looks a lot stronger and happier at heavyweight though.

Yeah DC dropped Big Foot when Big Foot when a beast and still had TRT.

Then the power vanished at LHW...HW suits him a lot better.

LHWs are just more competitive at HW than we thought.

I'd like to see Gus take a fight at HW some time

dude weighs forty pounds more at optimal fighting weight

that's just insane

Oh im not saying that at all. DC is a beast at 205 but I'll be damned if he didn't look just as good if not better last night at heavyweight

DC landed some solid dirty boxing shots on Jones as well. Let’s not forget that. Jones has a fucking hell of a chin, and that makes up for his not perfect defense once his range barrier gets passed

I hate when people down play that win for DC. Bigfoot had just wrecked fedor and arlovski and had a close fight with werdum going into the DC fight it could be argued that cormier cracked big foots chin in that fight

The guy is just a beast... but the added weight helped his power. Hook.. ground and pound... sleep. Brock is in trouble...

He uses his torque and hips very well, that's why he generate way more power at HW (especially when he was younger) especially with circular punches like hooks and uppercuts.
He is no Mike Tyson for sure but he has floored big guys with one punch so I would definitely no say he doesn't have KO power..

A sample size of one hardly proves that theory; it's more like Cormier is more competitive at Heavyweight than Light Heavyweight.

He obviously does, he has now two KOs at HW. But both of his KOs happened because opponents were not able to see the punch coming. Its more about skill and speed with DC than power. Gus has said neither Jones or DC hits hard, he couldn't even tell the difference between them when he was asked and we know Jones does not hit hard.

He looks much much better at HW because DC style rely a lot on power and strenght, and at HW he looks fuckton more powerful and stronger

Having lighter opponents at LHW mask it a bit, but it's really visible imho, cut weight really kill his weapons

Ive always thought the best fighters didnt cut much weight.

Prime Shogun didnt cut much at all and would knock everyone out in the first round

Bj Penn didnt cut crazy weight and hes easily the best lower weight guy ever

Fedor never cut weight.

Dehydration plays hell on the body... it would stagger him, but I bet HW DC eats that shot.

I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that timing and placement had more to do with that than anything else. Rumble (goat-contender stopping machine) and Gus both landed big shots on DC that didn't put him down. We can talk hypotheticals all day, but concrete evidence shows DC's chin holding up pretty damn well at 205.

I have years of posts on here saying how shit the HW division was, all the way back to when retards said Roy Nelson should move down to LHW...he would have gotten utterly destroyed.

Basically, I'm always right.
