Never had a bum knee(s). Does it mess up your wrestling / grappling?
Maybe his lungs are in his knees
No, he just isn't a very good ground fighter, besides his black BJJ belt
Glover is a better grappler than santos. Knees or no knees
No he just lost to the better fighter. If he beat Glover you guys would say Glover has no excuse even though he’s old as hell
Maybe, since your lower body strength is utilized to stuff takedowns + most of your strength from grappling and strikes come from your leg strength/drive...
It's his hips that was the issue not his knees. Needs to learn how to sprawl better.
He would have a better chance
He's in his late 30s and coming off double knee surgery
Put it this way. If a past-their-prime athlete has two catastrophic knee injuries, they will not be the same afterward. MMA fans often times don't pay attention to other sports, so the realities of injuries and age are often ignored. Would he have beaten Glover before the injuries? I think so, but it's a trivial discussion. The fact is, there's no chance he's as capable athletically after the injuries.
We'll never know but i don't think the knees played a factor. Santos hurt him bad and the old man managed to pull through.
Marreta has the power to put anyone away on any given night but you could also say prime glover finishes prime thiago earlier too.
It's a high variance matchup
I don't quite think he does -- he has never shown strength in his takedown defense. Stylistically it just seems like a rough match up. It's all the more questionable as to why Bones didn't wrestle with him; easier said than done I reckon...
Also, as someone with a wrestling background that has had 5 knee surgeries, it most definitely does screw up your wrestling.
And so Healthy Knee Santos was born.
Erick Anders took Santos down numerous times, and even took his back in round 3.
For some reason, since a fresh Santos shrugged off a TD from Jon Jones in RD1, people think he has elite TDD.
how long are we going to use the bad knee thing as an excuse for him losing?
Santos without 16 months of ring-rust and not going all Deontay Wilder each time he stung Glover could have won.
