I recently filled a fairtex hb6 bag, and the first thing i did was put 18lb of sand in 3 heavy duty garbage bags and put that in the bottom of the punching bag. The bag is now completely full, mostly with old clothes and cloth, and weighs between 118-120 lb (the weight its supposed to be). I just wanted to ask if putting that bag of sand in the bottom would cause extra strain to the stitching on the bottom of the punching bag? Everything seems fine now, but I would hate to do anything to shorten the lifespan of the punching bag.

I'm pretty sure you should be fine with only 18-20lbs of sand at the bottom of the bag, however if you would fill the bag 1/3 to 1/2 sand or rice then i would start keeping an eye on the seams.

@perfecxion - As GFG said you should have no worries with that amount of sand. I have a TKO bag that was 75lbs. I took most of the clothes out and filled it with sand not even in garbage bags and put clothes in at regular intervals. It is now 180-200lbs. I use it for some striking but mostly pushing around, balance, movement and knees :icon_twis ... no problem after 3 years.

@GFG - What's up Mike! I bought a 6-7 foot sharpshooter off you a couple years back and filled it with sand. I forget what it weighed in at... maybe 100lbs. Works great but I had to put padding around it because bare leg kicks to it were brutal! Thanks!
