I feel when we are drilling combinations in class that I feel better if after each combo, I circle or push into my partner. We are told to "throw blocks" at our striker when holding mitts, and after I block his throws, if I circle or move it seems to take my mind away from being tired, much like in a competition match, after a few shots landed or dodged, you will see a fighter square his stance and hop a bit. It also helps me to keep my breathing in check. My coach has always yelled for us to move and cover up, but I think I may be doing it excessively. Is this wrong or could it be helpful in the long run? Thanks!

Well, short answer is yes and no.

Movement is good as long as it serves a point (e.g., finding angles, dodging, setting up an attack). At the same time, pointless movement is well, pointless. all you are doing is wasting opportunities to attack or creating opportunities/openings for your opponent to attack you.

If you need to reset after each combination, then you have issues with your balance.
