Ok we all hear about the great athletes in the NFL or NBA But most of those athletes are over 200lbs. So they most likely have the best athletes in the heavyweight division.

Now we look at the athletes under 205lbs. The only other major paying sport would be the MLB or Soccer. And i really dont think those guys are more athletic than the wrestlers and kickboxers from mma.

Think about high school sports. The biggest guys were football and basketball players. But besides them the wrestlers were the unglorified athletes.

So what other sports do sub 205lb athletes play that is more physically demanding than MMA.

I think mma has the best 125 - 205lb athletes.

Many might say boxing, but whether u admit it or not, boxing is declining as most younger aspiring fighters go for mma because it is easier to rise to the top because of the smaller amount of people doing it. Also boxing gyms are closing and mma gyms are sprouting up fast. If you look at growth alone, mma is speeding up faster than boxing is. Even though boxing has more fans and money etc.

Who agrees?

And they're white

Good to see that you're keeping the quality of your threads consistent.

Not exactly. There's insane athletes in every sport, and the only sports where they're mostly huge dudes is football and basketball. MMA has some great athletes but other sports have more I would think.

what exactly do you define as athletic

soccer and baseball are sports where pure athletiscm isn't going to make you into a pro or top player

you need a certain level of technique that needs to be taught and trained to you since you were young. a soccer player might not be able to bench the same as an nfl running back but you can be sure as hell that that nfl running back wont be able to trap a ball kicked at them 100 yards away on the tip of their toe with either foot

No, everyone knows professional wrestling has the best athletes.

To treat this ridiculous question seriously for a second, compare the size of the talent pools that feed each respective sport and the potential money to be made, then ask yourself if MMA could possibly have the best athletes.

No. Football(soccer) has the best athletes under 205. Boxing's got better athletes than MMA too. Cricket and baseball too. Hell, rugby too. Tennis too. Handaball and water polo too. And swimming too.

There aren't many sports with athletes who wear over 205 pounds.

Also, a good amount of the athletes in the NFL would weigh considerably less if they had to train to fight 15 or 25 minutes instead of competing in short bursts.

Gymnists. gsp cant do half the shit these guys do, and he is one of the best conditioned mma athletes.

Insane body weight strength and endurance + flexibility. These guys are miniature beasts.

Probably in America, but the whole idea that athletes of certain sports are on average a higher tier of athleticism than other sports is pretty absurd.

More often than not, the sport makes the athletes. There are no stronger people in the world than those in strength sports such as powerlifting, strongman, oly weightlifting, etc, including NFL lineman. However, all of these sports are extremely fringe and obscure when compared to the NFL...

No way. MMA is still in it's infancy. Olympic sprinters and gymnasts for me are best all round.

The athletic ability of MMA fighters in general is incredibly low; on par with electricians, construction workers, journeyman dry-wall installation experts, etc.

Being that the companies that employ these D-Level athlete craftsman are much larger than the MMA, we can assume that a company like Con Edison for example, has significantly more athletes of the same caliber as MMA.

I believe on average, Con Ed employees make more per year than MMA fighters, and receive better benefits, job security, etc.

This was just a small example. There are exponentially more fields and sports, with an exponentially larger amount of better athletes than MMA from 125-205.

So, no.

Just to name one, tennis has way better athletes than MMA, and most of the top guys are under 205. Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic could both cut to WW and would embarrass them with their athleticism.

Can you imagine how many times they would use "athletic and explosive" to describe Monfils? Dude's 6'4" and could probably cut to lightweight.

What other pro sport has 155lb athletes that pay well? Golfing?

I think this is a fairly interesting topic to discuss.

It's not. It's been done again and again and it's always stupid. No one even bothers to define athleticism when they answer (including me because just posting in these threads makes everyone dumber).

Good point. Gymnists are top athletes that weigh like 130lbs. But does gymnastics really pay that much?
