In your opinion, does Max's loss to Dustin devalue the FW belt?

Personally, I don't think it does, but I'd like to hear the opinions of sherbros.

nah, just proved that max isn't as effective at 155 because he doesn't carry his power up there, and he's already a volume puncher at 145.

people will shit on me for this, but i still believe holloway is the better fighter than poirier and will be regarded as the better fighter in the long run, poirier was bigger and hits hard and max doesn't, i mean poirier gets hurt in a bunch of his fights and max never really " hurt " him, stung him a couple times but poirier never got that hurt.

if max wants a future at 155 he's gonna have to put on some muscle or something, or find a way to put a lil more on his punches. don't get me wrong max can still break most of the top 10 at LW, but the power just isn't there right now.

Not really. He has beaten everyone put in front of him at FW.

And the Poirier fight was pretty close.

Losing at a higher weight class? Nope. BJ is considered one of the greatest at 155 and got destroyed by St Pierre for the 170 belt...

If the fight had been at BW, yes. It was at LW, so...

Doesnt look good, but not really, in the end Dustin is a LW who is beating TOP LW's, even if he fought at FW at one point, common for boxers to go through a few weight classes, the one they fight after doesnt affect the previous ones imo.

    Nope.

Finished the FW GOAT twice and destroyed Ortega with ease and everybody else in front of him since his loss to Conor.

No shame in losing to a beast in Poirier in your LW debut. Even went five rounds. That's something to hang your hat on. Max is as tough as it gets.

Not even a bit. He went up and fought a much bigger guy, and in the very first exchange, every one with sense and observational skills, saw that the weight disadvantage was going to be a problem.

It reminded me of Benson Henderson vs Brandon Thatcher. The size difference was obvious and Benson was having a hard time striking with Brandon, but he still found a way to choke him out.

Therefore, what I learned is that Max Holloway needs to do more work on his grappling and strength conditioning.

No, a lot of people just got caught up in the former LWs beating WWs recently thing. Max is a volume puncher at FW and it's not due to the weight cut, he's a much better fighter at FW than LW. Some guys fight best at the lowest weight class they can make, some don't.

I wish the UFC would stop using FW as a feeder division for LW. They're two different divisions for a reason. If the champ really wants to go up, that's fine, but the UFC were the ones who really wanted max to go up.

Also, plenty of top level lightweights have dropped to FW and lost, so it's not really a skill difference at play imo.

Judging from the responses in here most of us don't think it devalues the FW belt, but I wonder how casuals think.

No, but ppl smell blood at this point....It’ll likely make a power puncher at 135 want to move up or a lighter 155 power puncher want to move down to test him at 145 after seeing the effects of max using his chin as primary defense against a power puncher.

Dustin is a million times bigger than he was at fw, Max has holes that were apparent at 145 but it shouldnt devalue the 145 belt

Nope, Holloway moved up a fought a bigger, better fighter. Doesn’t devalue his accomplishments at FW.
