I love it too. Granted, I've trained Shotokan for many years so I'm familiar with the strategy, distance, timing, and philosophy. And can see all of this when Machida fights.

It makes me sad that many people just see his masterful control of distance as 'running', but can't please everyone

What's cool about Machida's KOs is that they are not TKOs. Half or more of stoppages due to strikes occur when the ref steps in to protect a losing but still conscious fighter, i.e., TKOs.

But not Machida. His opponents just lie there when knocked out, and every one of his 5 UFC knockout wins have been straight KO.

This is extremely rare. Jon Jones, for example, has 0 straight KOs in the UFC. Knockout artists like Rampage and Liddell are about half TKOs and half KOs. Machida is something special.

that's awesome. Are you a blackbelt? I showed some of his fights to my father who is 3dan like Machida, and he ofcourse recognized the shotokan.

As much as I don't really like Machida I can't come up with someone who has a better highlight reel.
The only guys on the same level off the top of my head are Anderson and Pettis. Also Page has those two kos over Wand and Chuck but the body of Lyoto's kos is much better.
