because jones has been dominant and nobody had come close to giving jones a close fight until gus, and the lawler hendricks fight wasnt even a title defense. if hendricks was some dominant champ with 3 + title defenses (and if WW wasnt so stacked), lawler probably wouldve gotten a rematch after 1 fight as well. also hendricks is injured and everyone wants to see the gus jones rematch more.

That Gus and Cormier should be fighting for #1 contender spot against Jones? Why does Lawler have to fight 2 killers before fighting for the belt while Hendrix hasn't even defended it once? And Gus fought a #11 ranked light heavyweight? UFC plays such obvious favorites sometimes. I agree with the Lawler and Brown fight, I just don't think Gus can beat Cormier let alone should already be challenging for the belt after beating a #11 ranked fighter. Finally someone gets it. With Hendricks injured and Rory/Woodley winner getting title shot, Lawler needs an opponent to hold him over. An opponent that won't ruin the UFC's payday of Lawler in a title shot. Matt Brown is perfect. People are eating up the hype on him and he is no threat to Lawler.

Matt Brown is good gatekeeper, nothing more. I remember when Brown didn't want to stand with Chris Lytle, so Brown took Lytle down and was submitted by Lytle.

One other thing, some people are making fun of Brown because of his weak midsection. Anyone who takes a clean shot to the liver will slump over.

Exactly. Way more possible contenders at WW. When you really only have 2 guys that could give the champ a run why would you have them fight eachother and lose one as a possible contender?
