Does Khabib's Legacy Get An Asterisk for Not Fighting at Higher Weight Class (Like Conor & GSP)?

Does Khabib's legacy get an asterisk for not fighting at a higher weight class?

Khabib can't mock Conor for losing at different weight classes when he is too scared to fight at higher weight classes. It may not undermine his legacy as a fighter but it undermines his legacy as a man.

Yes, yes he can

He can mock him as a "man" even more so simply by virtue of towering over him as Herb forced Khabib to release Conor.

Everyone knows who was alpha in the fight and it wasn't your boy, quit crying because the thread you started didn't go your way.

You ought to be grateful that more level headed, clear thinking honest fight fans even bothered to vote and post up in here.

Only newer fans are obsessed about fighters in multiple weight class. This is not boxing.
This. It rarely goes well when fighters move out of their weight class. Khabib is a lightweight. He shouldn't be expected to fight at anything else. It's only bonus points if he does.

I’m a big GSP fan. But at the time, his fight against Bisping seemed like a safer fight then Woodley.
That's how it is viewed retrospectively, but fans at that time were split. There's a poll on here somewhere where more than half of the posters had Bisping beating GSP. The GSP haters have created the "safe fight" narrative after the fact.

No, but Khabib doesn't HAVE a legacy. There are a bunch of nuthuggers around here, but he hasn't done anything to deserve the praise he gets.
His resume is padded with a bunch of nobodies, he fought lower-tier undercard compeition even in the UFC until recently, and then was gifted a belt by beating a second-tier fighter. His two title defenses since then are a START and nothing more. At this point, his "legacy" isn't even equal to that of Chris Weidman (who will be largely forgotten in a few years.)

He will need 3-4 more title defenses before he should even start to be talked about amongst all-time greats.

At the time (and to a lesser degree, now) the Bisping fight was less risky. Not much in the way of KO power and no wrestling pedigree. I still think GSP is right up there for GOAT consideration.

I prefer champions to stay in their division and defend against the rightful contenders

Of course his legacy would be more impressive if he challenged himself by moving up to 170 and won the championship there. Any fighter's legacy will be judged in part by the level of their competition.

I don't think saying his legacy would require an asterisk is the best way of saying it though. It's not like he'd be breaking some sort of rule by sticking to one weight class.

Moving up is an easy way out. If you win, you can brag about beating a bigger boy, if you lose you already got an excuse ready.

Why is Conor included in thread title/OP? He only fights LWs at 170

And GSP had 1 opportunistic fight at 185 vs a cherry-picked pirate one-eyed Ping

I don’t like the new trend of dumping on fighters because they’re dominating a weight class, and not moving up. Fighters can dominate their weight class and still be all-time greats.

155 lb “safe space”, lol...

There’s no such thing as a safe division in this sport, and also, who the hell wants Khabib/Masvidal?

What a stupid idea.

Conor won belts in two weight classes.

These discussions never seem to include the most successful multiple weight class champ in UFC history - Randy Couture

Randy’s titles (including interim) at 205 were by defeating legends like Tito, Chuck & Vitor

he won HW titles at HW against, generally, much heavier competitors

both guys you mentioned just picked smart stylistic fights

Heck no. Lightweight is crazy stacked and he has tons of good fighters to keep him busy there. It's not like the division is emptied out and there is nobody left to fight.

GSP cherry picked one eyed 40 year old Michael Ping who was damaged goods after getting his chin wrecked by 46 year old Hendo and 42 year old Silva
