Does judo work ?

Russian or French, where leg grabs, pickups, and groundwork are emphasized. Less so traditional Japanese, which relies more on the gi and generally doesn't have as good of groundwork, especially subs (other than collar chokes for some reason, though those also rely on the gi).
 
Yes it seems now the only way to practice proper Judo is to enter BJJ competitions these days.

haha no shit yaaa you hit the nail right on the head there anyone i know that did judo and then tried bjj signed up shortly after , it just seems likeand i know iam gonna get flammed for this but "real judo"
