I believe I heard Goldie mention it in UFC 152 but I find that incredible seeing how diverse Jones arsenal is. He also claims he doesn't practice his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as often as he does his striking wrestling etc.
So does Jones really hold the record?

side note Sonnen has 8 submission losses.

Fairly sure he has less than Royce

EDIT: Ah, LHW only. Then it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

Most of the top guys at LHW are hard to submit so this is an amazing stat.

I'm not too find of Jones but you have to respect just how amazing he is

You quoted his post but didnt read his edit. He obviously is aware of that. I remember Jones saying in an interview he learned a lot of his submissions just by watching youtube. Crazy if true.

The guy is a machine. I think he will sub Chael just as he did to Bader. His overwhelming strength and technique imo will prove to be too much for Chael. Just a prediction.

I'd say it goes two ways, either you have guys with high level BJJ who are hard to sub or guys who can be subbed but a very hard to take down.

As far as numbers go Overeem has more sub wins at LHW although perhaps not better sub wins.

UFC LHW he is saying.

In the UFC, though. Overeem has 0 on that front.

I would have thought Babalu or Jeremy Horn had more, but Babalu has 4 and Horn has 3.

Jones has 5.

And why not? Jones fights often, he finishes almost every fight (I think I can remember two decisions in his entire career) and his style is good for it.
About him not practicing BJJ too often - why should he? He's got great wrestling and good gameplans so when his opponent is softened enough and Bones has a dominant position - it doesn't exactly take a black belt to pull out an americana from mounted crusifix. And Jones is really great at setting such opportunities for himself.

And, if memory serves me, there are no "offensive" bjj specialists in LHW - maybe Lil Nog but only a small part of his career took place in UFC.

it will be fun to watch jones destroy sonnen.

That's not too unbelievable. Babalu has 4 subs in 6 wins but other than him, there aren't really any sub specialists who have had long stints in the UFC at 205 and even Babalu was only a purple/brown belt when he was in the UFC.

He had four title defense fights against the top 5 in about a year which is double what most other fighters do. Ignoring all the tabloid crap, he is great for fight fans.

I have a feeling he'll RNC Sonnen and add to his submission hit list

It's hard to compare Jones to earlier submissions specialists because they jumped around orgs so much. But an interesting comparison is that Babalu fought in the UFC 10 times and Jones has fought 12 times.

Anyway I never really cared about this stat on Jon Jones. Not saying that he isn't amazing but most of the fighters he submitted were in such a bad spot that he really could have ended them via TKO.

Clearly his sub game is light years ahead of his actual experience, but some people interpret this stat to mean "he is the best submissions specialist at LHW".
