Does Jon Jones purposefully fight to his opponents strengths to show how good he is?

He stood up the whole fight with DC. He took down Gane. He tried to take down Santos but failed. He didnt fight Glover on the ground, so wtf are you talking about?

He tried to take Santos down? No he didn’t, he didn’t shoot at all. Did you watch the fight!?

He faked a half hearted grab at a leg during a low kick and it counted as the only attempt.

He took Glover down, and Glover was best at clinch fighting and up close. Jones fought almost 5 rounds in the pocket against him.

Again, only person to take DC down multiple times, you really think Jones can’t take santos down when he took DC down?

I think he has said that, but its not out of the possibilities with a guy like Jones, but he also didnt played with Gane...went straight for his best skillset, so its not always that, or at least not on current past his prime Jones.

I think the old Jones in his prime took fighting at his opponents strength as some sort of challenge. But his last few fights he's fought smarter. Like he didn't even waste any time attacking Gane's weakness.

It really seems like sometimes Jon Jones gets bored and just started to stop taking his opponents seriously.

He decided to kickbox Santos. Didn’t shoot one takedown against Santos, faked a leg grab once that they counted as a attempt.

He decided to clinch fight and wrestle Sonnen.

He decided to wrestle DC.

He decided to just phone booth Glover and fight him in the clinch.

Everyone was talking about how good Glover was in pocket and in the clinch, then Jones just decided to fight him there and rip him apart close.

It seems when he actually cares he just decides to exploit his opponents weakness and finish them.

Anyone else think Jones sometimes just purposefully decide to fight to his opponents strengths when he’s bored?

I honestly think if there wasn’t a history making moment in beating Gane, he’d have kickboxed Gane a lot more instead of instantly grapple fking him.

He almost lost vs Santos. Perhaps he didn´t feel like grappling. Maybe cause of Santos bjj or just didn´t feel it that night.

Sonnen ? Ok nice 2024 join date. Biggest squash match. Chael had 0.1% chance. There is nothing going into strengths weaknesses. Jon Jones can finish Chael how he decides to.

He is well rounded so he is gonna both kick and grapple. Some fights more of this some more of that.

That Gane example is the opposite of your point.

Absolutely

I think Gane was the exception because one mistake with Gane and its could night

Jones is really the Taskmaster (marvel character) of Martial Arts
When has Gane ever shown that kind of power?

No, he usually strikes with people but uses takedowns for mix-ups, exposing weaknesses, or wearing people down.

If he can get somehow down with high success he will absolutely try that. He destroyed Gane with grappling and he wore a fresh Stipe down with grappling. Both these guys are primarily strikers.

He has for different reasons. He tried to take Santos down early and got stuffed, then Santos blew out both his knees so Jon was attacking his legs. Jon only landed a handful of head strikes in that fight.

Jon had a big size advantage over Chael, and wrestling is where size makes the most difference, but Chael would have taken Jon down if Jon just tried to strike, and instead Chael didn't shoot for 1 TD because Jon never

Wouldn't really say he decided to wrestle DC either. There were a few wrestling exchanges mixed in with neither one of them really getting any notable top control time out of it.

DC has only been taken down twice in his career and both times by Jones.

Well that's definitely not true. Stipe took him down in both of their first 2 fights, Rumble took him down, Gus took him down.

Lol if he wanted to beat DC where he is good at he would have pulled guard and subbed him out. So no Jones doesn't do that. Maybe u could debate Anderson did that against Chael lol maybe... but I know the fanboys would never accept that Anderson could be better than Jon so we won't go there!

Except that DC is at his worst off his back. Jon tried to take him down to get him where he is weakest...he just couldn't keep him there. If he wanted to beat him where he was best, Jon would have pulled guard and subbed him off his back! But even Jon knows he's not quite as good as his fanboys think he is... if he pulled guard against DC he was going to lose that fight lol

DC isn't his only fight.

Machida, Shogun, Rampage were largely striking affairs. Though I haven't watched those fights in a very long time. Yes I know he subbed 2 of them.

He wrestled Bader I'm pretty sure. He cranked Glovers shoulder in the first round in the clinch which is in area Glover is good in, as was mentioned in the OP.

You are thinking of Fedor.

The guy who fought people when he was HW champ.
It’ll never not be funny how you guys pretend a Grandmaster of Sambo and International Master of Judo shouldn’t have taken down and grappled Nog.

Or how you pretend he didn’t take down CC for 10 minutes of their fight and instead pretend it was a stand up fight.

Fedor very much fought to his strengths. In later years once his striking was caught up it became irrelevant where a fight took place. A well rounded fighter fighting wherever isn’t fighting to an opponents strengths when they’re also your own.

There’s a lesson there.

He won on damage, Santos ripped both his knees and Jon also smashed it. But you are stupid for posting strike numbers. It's beyond dumb. One high kick that lands flush and one lazy jab that barely lands both can count as 1 significant strike.

Also Jon knockdd him down. This state doesn't even state it. He landed a elbow that dropped Thiago.
