Does GSP have the highest fighting IQ of any combat sport athlete in history?

One of the few fighters who imposes his will almost every time.

Rarely makes mistakes and learns from them when he does.

I can't think of a single fighter that fights smarter.

He is definitely one smart cookie, but Silva and Jones are right up there with him. Chris Weidman seems to have a relatively high fight IQ as well despite that one moment where he turned his back to his opponent.
 
In terms of gameplanning and being able to implement and stick to one, yeah. I'd say that Anderson has a greater ability to learn his opponent, though. Anderson spends all that time feinting and dancing around and shit to learn their timing and reactions and stuff like that. A different kind of fight IQ, I guess.

Goddamn would I love for the two of them to fight...

Lol, what? Mentioning Weidman with Jones, GSP, and Silva's fight IQ? Come on man.

Sometimes I think Anderson fights stupidly. Like against Maia or trying to sub Sonnen.

He is one of the greatest but GSP just seems smarter and more realistic about his skills.

Anderson is more naturally talented though but not by much.

Machida Pre Shogun was pretty good at implementing game plans. (he still is but he takes more damage then he used to)

but FTR. i agree. Nobody is as good as GSP is
 
I always thought Jeremy Horn was WAY up there, but just doesn't have the same level of athleticism. IMO, Horn is one of the smartest MMA fighters ever.

It's easy to execute if you're faster, stronger, and better conditioned than everyone else.
 
Certainly up there. But "Fight IQ" is something extremely difficult to gauge.

Need to slow your role, I didn't say he was there, I just said he has displayed. No way in knowing for sure until he gets more fights under his belt.

It is smart of him to apologize to the booing fans for his performance after nearly every fight

But he learned from it, same with Matt Hughes, he was cocky as hell going into that first fight. 2nd time around in both fights it was all business...

Not really. Just look at GSP and Kampman and you see HUGE difference.
