Does former MWs like Palhares having success at WW prove that MWs are underrated?

Everyone knows the WW division is one of the best divisions in MMA, arguably considered the strongest division in MMA. But these MWs are dropping down and winning too easily, especially for what many consider to be the strongest division in MMA. Maia is already considered a contender, Lawler is a contender, Palhares already looks like he can possibly become a contender at WW, and Hector Lombard would probably fall in line as well. Former MWs are becoming the top contenders at WW. Do you think the MW division is underrated?

    Size is underrated around here.

Ask Jon Jones about that in regards to 'the Mauler'.

It certainly doesn't say anything bad about MW.

I think it's both that MW was underrated and WW was overrated. There's 4-5 great fighters, then the bottom half of the top ten is filled with guys who would struggle against anybody in the MW top ten and the LW top ten.

Maia, Shields, Lawler, Koscheck, Palhares, Lombard, Kampmann and Marquardt all fought at MW

This right here. WW gets overrated because GSP can't finish a fight and MW was underrated because Anderson made it look easy.

Things are going to be very different now without Anderson as champ and WW filling with former MW's

Does TJ Grant's success at LW prove that welterweights are underrated?

No. It proves bigger, heavier men have better success against smaller, lighter men.

Has always been. Haven't you heard the latest news? LHW is the worst division ever.

This is what happens when you have a dominant champion. And by dominant I mean fuckin dominant, not decisioner.

Weight classes are there for a reason, y'know. People don't cut weight because they like that slim look.

    It proves that size matters.

Didn't he win his first fight at MW too?

Seriously. A tiny bit of thought wouldn't hurt.

Well, many consider the WW division the best division in MMA so if they are saying you are the best, how are you being underrated? :icon_lol:

People use little instances like this too much. I honestly think it depends on the particular fighter and the match up he's presented at a different weight class.

Yep. People who take single instances and look for proof of anything in the grand scheme of things are borderline retarded.

True, but Palhares just beat one of the strongest WWs in the division in his WW debut. Mike Pierce is not a build up fighter, he took Koscheck and Hendricks to a split decision and Palhares beat him in less than a minute.

Thank you. And thank you for using logic on this forum where it lacks so heavily.

TJ Grant is a huge success at LW (emphasis on size here). Don't go trumpeting how great underrated MW is just yet cause Palhares next opponent might not try to grapple with him.

Mike Pierce isn't an elite 170. Get back to me when Rousimar beats one of the top guys. He has always looked good vs guys outside of the top 10. He had a huge bandwagon back in like 2011 because of this. The same thing will happen at 170 when he fights one of the better guys.
