Does Cormier overrate himself?

for being a longlife cheater "towelgate" is always the only thing people bring up.
You a UFC ref? You allow a bunch of freebies before enforcing the rules? Cheating is cheating.

He knew Cain would destroy him in HW so he fought against smaller guys while not making weight. That's bullshit by itself.
Now let's talk about how he became an eye poking POS like his buddy Jonny after they fought.

Also, you honestly think someone who openly laughs about cheating the scale since college was scrupulously honest in every other aspect of the game? If so, I have this hot new cryptocurrency to sell you.

If Jon Jones didn't exist DC would have max 3 more title defences, assuming he:

- won the title at Jones/DC 1 instead against Gus (original Jones opponent before DC)
- defended against Rumble instead of for a vacant
- defended against Gus like usual
- defended against Rumble like usual
- defended against whoever instead of the non-title fight Anderson fight (I guess OSP?)
- defended against whoever instead of Jones 2
- defended against Volkan

Then moved up and went 2-2 at HW again.

Congrats, he possibly set a new LHW defence record of 6. Which is still less than Jones own record. And which is still less than other existing GOATs besides Jones. DC would've been top 10 no doubt, but GOAT? Lol no.

0 chance he leaves 205 if JJ doesn't exist, maybe he goes up and down, but he wouldn't drop the belt.

He's anhilate every single challange Jones almost lost to and then with Tom blazing a path, DC at 44 takes tom down at will and ends double champ

I've noticed with a lot of the Jones/Aspinall talk that Cormier often insinuates that if the fight took place 10yrs ago then Jones would have already fought and beaten Aspinall and one of his main explanations seems to be "well, Jon beat me and I was never better than when I fought him the 2nd time".

I find myself thinking; "OK, so? You're not the best fighter of all time, are you?" You're not anywhere close. Cormier had a great a career but its not like he fought prime JDS, Cain, Werdum, Overeem, etc is it. He flash Ko'ed Stipe once then got thoroughly beaten back twice. The idea he beats Aspinall easily because he beat DC is DC giving himself too much credit IMO.

Where's this idea he would've fought Aspinall 10yrs ago even coming from? He damn sure didnt fight the aforementioned HW's did he. He was beating up &/or winning decisions against Glover & OSP & old blown up middleweights. He didn't fight Ngannou 4yrs ago either.
I think he believes he would have beat Jon if he was not on PEDS.

I mean obviously if you go full on pull with no thought of how you look. I mean how much could you do before it seems insane and people are like what the fuck are you doing. Obviously I could take 15 20 pounds off if I was trying as hard as I could

You could take off your entire body weight if you were trying as hard as you could. Every bit of weight on the towel is weight that's not on the scale.

I think you overestimate how much a pound of pressure is. It's almost negligible in terms of actual force applied.

Yup.

For reference, average trigger pull weight for a double action revolver is about 10 pounds, meaning it is not only accepted but expected that ANYONE (including old people, disabled people and women using firearms to negate physical disadvantages) could pull a minimum of 10 pounds of force with just one finger.

200+ pound weight lifters will sometimes use towels to adjust the form or grip for pull ups, and any old ratty gym towel will easily hold their weight.

Having a towel lighten the scale by a few pounds ain't asking much of either the towel or the hands/fingers

He's a lifelong cheater with a massive ego. Are you surprised he's a liar too? I’m…
I’m not entirely sure about the lifelong thing.

Are you talking about PEDs? He did have that one incident where his pee showed an anomaly.

But I honestly don’t think DC could have beaten Stipe without skewering his eye (In ALL 3 fights, btw).

He’s an ATG, but not in any GOAT conversations.

Yes, he has a little too BIG of an ego. Not outrageous, but pretty obvious, imo.

Man, if you look at all the greats of the sport, not all are in a good place after retirement.

See Exhibits: BJ Penn, Fedor (frozen out in Russia), Conor, Cain, Tito, Rampage, Matt Hughes, Milletch, Ronda, Jon Jones.

Cormier is in a good place.

How does one of the greatest LHW's and/or HW's of all time overate himself???

Dc does overrate himself…..but if I were a fat middle weight picking 250 lbs men over my head and body slamming them …..I’d probably feel pretty damn good about myself

Yes, he is overrated. At his peak, I favor peak Jones, Cain, Werdum, Reem, Ngannou, JDS, Fedor over him. With Stipe, CroCop, Asp being 50/50 fights.
