Don't get me wrong, Pettis is a excellent fighter and one of the few to get past Henderson not only once, but twice. But his style of fighting seems to be unfit for the Lightweight division and I could see top fighters having a good chance of beating him. My top would be Khabib, Melendez, and Aldo if he moves up. I'm not saying he has no chance, I think he can hang with every fighter in the division, but he does not have the same mystique as the current champions of keeping the title for long in my eyes.

If he could stay healthy I think he could be champ for awhile.

No, i got Melendez beating him. And even through he beat him twice already, i still think Benson can beat him.

If he improves his takedown defense, yes.

Pettis has the best striking in the division and submitted the champ off his back who had never been subbed before.

His takedown defence is fine, it is usually those unorthodox strikes that he throws that put him in vunerable positions.

I don't see Gilbert beating him. Pettis will look at the Diego fight and analyse that Diego troubled Gil a few times to the body. Pettis will unleash the same body attack he did with Cerrone imo.

I don't know if Gil has what it takes to beat Pettis, although if he can keep him on his back he may be able to. I do agree with the theory on Benson, I would love it if he got another shot. Their first fight was incredible, the second fight was over much quicker than I expected. Even though he is 0-2 against Pettis I still think Henderson is on the top of the lightweight mountain. Stylistically, Pettis is a horrible matchup for Bendo but I believe he could pull it off.

Hell no, Gil will destroy him. Thomson was about to but UFC wanted him to bail and get the unneeded surgery first.

I honestly think he will have his title stripped for inactivity.

Only by decision by wall n' stall or lay n' pray. Nobody is out-striking him and I can't see him getting submitted as boy is SLICK on the ground

Yes, and he had the mystique after his last fight. It's just diminished now because of the injury and he's been out of the public conscious for a while. That's the way hype works in both directions.

LW is Khabib's bitch for years to come. Unless some other prodigy shows up out of nowhere.

    You're a fucking idiot.

He destroyed Bendo who edged both guys, and they haven't exactly destroyed that many of their other non UFC champ opponents.

Also, he has never been close to destroyed, by anyone. The best anybody has done to him was take him down and lay on top while he foolishly went for submissions, or stole a victory from him. He's barely been hit standing or ground in his career.

But yeah, he's getting destroyed by not 1 but a few guys at the top. You eediot. Enjoy getting your shots in while you still can. Because once he comes back he'll get his shots in on people like you, who I'm sure thought he'd get destroyed in the Bendo rematch too.

To be fair I thought Bendo clearly lost to both those guys, so it doesn't take away from Josh or Gil. I just think Pettis is the best LW right now...people thought I was crazy when I said said he would starch Henderson in the 2nd fight. Some people can't recognize talent, Pettis isn't another run of the mill contender he destroys guys.

Pettis will be reigning champion for years. He's gonna come back healthy and run through the division. Keep doubting him all you haters, he's gonna be the next superstar of the UFC. Once he's healthy it's on and everyone will be on his bandwagon like they were for Anderson Silva all these years.
