Bendo would have wrecked him, RDA, Khabib, Conor, Ferg, even the non top 10 of today beats him easily

BJJ world champion with excellent boxing and amazing TDD? Nah he'd get wrecked by everyone...

Yes. Prime BJ would be champion today.

Prime Penn couldn't even beat FW Frankie Edgar.

Will be... not would be, unless you're from the Future

Yes...because he was winning 1st rounds against welterweights dammit.

Aldo could beat Penn though..

Yes. Prime BJ would be champion today.

BJ was always lazy and any version of him would get out worked by Khabib, Bendo, or Edgar.

Don't forget a coconut for a head. He took a beating, flush elbows from basically a MW rory and didn't drop. I love Connor but what happens when the left doesn't drop BJ? And regardless those other LW are not GSP and would not be able to wrestle fuck him.
Marinovich BJ = GOAT

Prime BJ Penn is a monster. His prime version is still in the top percentile in grappling. Except for maybe few guys, his top game, guard smash, and back control is still unmatched.

His striking is serviceable still in today's standards. Prime BJ boxing is still betterand cleaner than most guys in his division.

If prime BJ went for boxing plus takedown combination backed with good cardio and pace maintenance, not a lot of guys can handle prime bj at 155

End of story.

BJ is so polarizing. Some say he his prime is massively overrated and some think in his prime he was unstoppable. I'm somewhere in the middle but certainly don't think he is one of the greatest fighters ever. Most of his big wins (Hughes, Sherk, Diego, Pulver, Gomi, Ludgwig, Florian) were against pretty one dimensional guys. It seemed whenever he fought somebody truly at the top with well rounded skills in all areas he lost and the excuses pored in.

I am a huge BJ Penn fan. That being said after seeing his old school boxing stance and pure lack of anything offensive, I think his days are over. I just don't want to see him take a beating.

If he were to win, I would be shocked, pleasantly shocked, but shocked.

BJ was always lazy
he was lazy and cardio was a big problem, but for me he was one of those fighters who also suffered from really bad fight IQ. he had this off the charts BJJ that he practically never used in fights - the only time he ever used it was to sink in a RNC on a fighter who was rocked.

he was in the same camp as a guy like rampage (who had great wrestling but never used it) - if he had mixed his game up a bit more he could have gotten a few sub wins, and it would have made his boxing even more effective. frustrating fighter to watch, cause there was so much obvious potential.

Prime Penn would be the champ today.

Some of you guys forget how good BJ was.
