Is there anywhere on the web that posts the p & l's (profits and losses) of companies like TapouT, Affliction, Throwdown, etc?

i'm just trying to see if there is any reason to get into the industry. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Aiming for the stars aren't you. In my opinion, if you are just now thinking about entering this very active marketplace you might want to know how the smaller companies are doing.

Not intending to be a smart ass.....but if I am thinking of developing a new drink, I am not going to inquire about the profit margins of Coke and Pepsi to decide if it is worth my efforts.

Although this market is saturated right now, the fact remains it is still a young industry and the brands that are making it now may not be the brands that are making it in five years. Good luck to you. I suggest adding some skulls and wings to your designs because they sell big time. Also, it is always fun to watch the guys on this board squirm and hate on these designs, while boasting about how they are "so over it".

this is true....good advice. in all honesty though a lot of smaller companies might not have all their "ducks in a row" and have the proper info. The larger companies have a track/growth record one can look over....if I knew where to find it.

i do appreciate your comment and thanks. i too am pretty much over those designs too. but, if they sell, you never know. haha

The "combat sports apparel" market is very flooded right now. I think you will have to do more than make shirts and expect to make it. Good luck if you do go through with the endeavor.

Im sure affliction and Tapout are making some substantial money based on the massive increase in marketing and investments they have been making in the past year.

But like was said before your looking at two companies out of probably nearing a hundred or two that are appearing now (90% of them are small with a small following) that have really made it.

But hey you can dream big.

IMO i think if your going to start a fight gear company you should design training gear not just apparel. Insteps, head gear, gloves you know. Its harder and more expensive but its a bit less saturated then straight apparel.

This article gives some info on TapouT

CAA signs MMA brand TapouT

Seems they did $6mill turnover in 2006, expected to hit $25mill last year. (Revenue not profit). Also it looks like they secured substantial (mulit-million) outside investement/lending from PEMGroup so their expenditure may not reflect their operating profits.

This gives you a bit a of a bench mark for what I assume is the largest brand in the industry.

Do what you love and you'll love what you do. If your heart is in it for the right reasons, make a run at it. The average millionaire has 6 failed businesses under their belt.

BTW, does anyone else think it would be weird having a business meeting with Mask??

Well shit, I guess I still have a long ways to go. Stupid Tapout:icon_twis

SSFgear.com; the best gear at the best price.

everyone had some good info. i had just found that one article about tapout the other day. i sure wouldn't mind making 25 million!!! haha.

i really appreciate the input and encouragement from the people who have, or are associated with, apparel companies. although everyones input was appreciated.

just to let you know, it isn't going to be just apparel, we do have a little more to offer. We are strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers, and I am a licensed boxing coach. We work with a few MMA fighters currently and are in the process of signing more.

So, really, we are a training company with apparel to sell. I guess. We have some new designs (sorry, no skulls or morbid goth designs, though I am not against goth) and will be releasing them at the Cage Combat fights next Saturday, May 17th, in Santa Rosa. This will be our first show.

Our website is under construction but you can check it out Combat Performance Our current training company is Synergy Fitness Systems. Check them both out and get on the mailing list.

The CP site should be fully up in June.
