for pekiti tirsia, there is a movie called "kali means to scrape".
documentation. good stuff.

Kali means to Scrape wasn't about Pekiti-Tersia. Kali means to Scrape was a documentary of Kali's continuing existence in the Phillipines. Grand Tuhon Gaje was featured is a couple segments training but mainly he held the role of tour guide.

And Dog Brothers is great for stickfighting but it requires a solid base in another FMA to fully appreciate the techniques they demonstrate. Their tapes aren't good for a beginner. The Shivworks tapes look like a knife defense tape not FMA.

Would +1 on the "Kali Means to Scrape" ideas.

Would +1/2 on the note about DBs vids. The first one, largely on power, has some great stuff for beginners (assuming you are looking for the martial rather than art portions of FMA). The other half I agree here with Halls- some of their tapes are incomplete due to minimal coverage of the empty hand stuff.

The Shivworks tapes focus on blade stuff, but are largely rooted in FMA ideas (Pekiti and others). Would note here too though that they are more combatively focused than having the whole of the art. They do cover some empty hand ground that's important.

Included Steve Grody's tapes because his empty hand Filipino stuff (thru Dan Inosanto, Edgar Sulite, Vunak, DBs...) is awesome. Speaking of Edgar- his tapes are great too, mostly stick- the vids were directed by Grody.

halls,
ahh ok. i was told about the movie in my class. we do pt and i thought if the grand tuhon is the guide, it will be pt only.

i am looking for the movie for 6 months now, haha. the trailer is amazing.

there is also a discovery channel documentary about pt kali exclusivley, i think. some parts can be seen at youtube.

Nick (AKA Pappy Dog) at Bloodsport.com made the film. You can buy it there. While you're at it do yourself a favor and buy some of his sticks. His sticks are by far the best on the market

Malfalindo Silat, Any tapes by Terry Gibson, the Suwanda Brothers, or any person with the last name Inosanto. Guru Dan's daughter is a BMF as well.

Anyone familiar with a DVD entitled Secrets of Lightning Scientific Arnis by Alfredo Rico Acosta???

ive been going through the sandata ng arnis course on dve from www.blackbeltinyou.com for some time now, im generaly happy with it. interesting stuff. i dont know how it work as a stand alone, but as a supplement, im pretty happy with it.

Cuje-Maphlindo Silat is a mixture of Filipino,Malay, and Indonesian forms of dumog and silat. And the Swuandas taught Silat. These aren't forms of FMA's. But I will give you credit for the Terry Gibson refrence. Great instructor RIP.

Ranger- I've read and watched on youtube Lightning Scientific Arnis, but have yet to see it in person. Looks like interesting stick work. Not to burst your bubble but you're not going to learn Eskrima from a DVD.

Fat tire- You live in an area i could only dream of for Eskrima instructors and you're taking lessons from a DVD? Throw the DVD out and get into a school.

the closest formal school is an hour drive, cant afford the gas or the time, i do get together with some guys a couple times a month, but its nothing formal, just sparring with head gear, gloves, and sticks, that sort of thing. i bouth the dvd's to supplement that, and maybe pick up a few tricks. as i said, i dunno if it would be much good as a stand-alone, but i think ive gotten my moneys worth
