I grew up loving NASCAR but it's not the same anymore. Too many rule changes, along with the drivers acting like complete bitches has turned me off.

I get cricket being popular since it is a worldwide sport and being relatively accessible to play.

NASCAR got less and less interesting when cigarette sponsorship was taken out of it. Bring the cigs back and people will flock.

Like one poster said, nascar got all nerdy. The dude Joey Lugano is from Middletown Connecticut. Who the fuck wants to watch a car driven by a dude from CT drive around in circles. I wanna see Rickey “plow his sister” Webb from the hills and Hollar of West Virginia that started on a dirt track and pulled himself up by his boot straps race. Not some prep kid from CT.

Maybe if they had more races like Watkins glen where it’s a road like course instead of a fucking circle people would watch. But then again who the fuck watches Indy besides euro dudes. Or let Brazzers and PornHub sponsors cars.

I’ve never really followed it but one thing I’ve been told over the last few years was people started getting pissed about them letting the likes of Toyota/Honda and so on compete. And rule changes that prevent riskier driving.

I don’t know how true that is. But there it is.

I will say this.. I respect that fan base for walking off if that’s the case. You are a consumer at the end of the day, if you don’t like something entertainment wise -this is really the only way you can institute change.

I’ve lost interest in the NFL over the years due to rule changes watering down my favorite side of the ball -defense. And as a result I don’t watch too many games outside of Bears games (my team) and some playoff stuff and of course the SB. I used to watch every game I could that was on for many years. But this shift towards offense bores the fuck out of me and they hide behind player safety (which just adds insult imo) to do this crap.

I know I’m in the minority on this topic, but that’s what it is for me personally. I’m just not as interested in the game as I used to be.

After playing racing video games using real world cars and re-watching Fast and Furious movies, I want to watch some of these cars racing, but I end up seeing weird racing like funny cars on short straightaways, weird dirt racing where all the cars look the same. It would take some effort to actually determine what channel to watch to find normal cars racing.

No, although to be fair I have never had the attention span to watch one race that long. I say "one" because I used to go to the 1/4 or 1/2 mile tracks with my dad and brothers growing up, and it is great. The 7 to 10 lap trials, and 15 to 20 lap features are a lot of fun. That format sort of like why I enjoy MMA, if the fight/race is awful you know that a new one will be starting shortly. Similarly, if I do happen to see a race is in the final 10 laps or so I will stop and watch if nothing else is on.

Not true at all. No one ever cared about Toyota's, hell that happened 12 years ago. Honda has never been involved. I was a huge fan 20+ years ago. My interest started dwindling after 2000 to the point I haven't watched a race or even followed what's going on for several years now. It's been a combination of things, all boiling down to NASCAR trying to appeal to the masses and getting too big for it's own good. Similar to the UFC, but times 100. Allowing the speedway corps to choose the tracks has killed it as much as anything. Anyone building a new track is going to build a 1.5 mile track so they can have both open wheel and NASCAR events, maximizing their ROI. But 1.5 track racing in NASCAR SUCKS! No one likes it and they continue to change rules to make it more interesting. It's not fun to watch and never will be. Hell, even Bristol racing sucks these days because of what Wheeler did to the track. I hate to see what it's become because most of the people employed by teams are good people. But NASCAR the corp did this to itself and deserve everything they get.

NASCAR is suffering because of several things it did as well as the extremely short attention spans of the younger generations. The businesses near the tracks started charging more on race weekends and hotels, motels and campgrounds required paying for 4 nights at double and triple rates. Prices at the tracks also went way up. The disposable income of people has gone down. Fewer people have any interest in cars these days. Many of today's race car drivers don't have any mechanical inclination and got into driving through video games.

I see it locally. Many of the drivers grew up racing go karts that their father worked on or hired someone to work on. Many of the drivers I knew from my days at the tracks had kids that wanted to drive but didn't have any interest in working on the cars. As the older generations that worked on the cars get out of racing, their children do too.

Racing is going down the same road that baseball already did and football will very soon.

Football viewership is up though, but yeah the attention span thing is real.
Football has a "play" every 30 seconds.
Baseball has a "play" every 30 seconds-2 minutes depends on if you count every pitch as a play
NASACAR has almost none of that. Occasional pitting but you have to stay glued to the TV

TBF - the cars of today are way too complicated for 'mechanically inclined' drivers. Were not talking about 'stock' cars off the assembly line that Richard Petty was driving anymore.

Active suspension killed F-1. I think autosports in general are in decline. I wouldn't be surprised if stadium video gaming isn't larger than NASCAR in 5 yrs.

    Most convoluted shit ever.

F1 has its problems but at least the championship race is easy to follow.

I would like an option to watch overhead drone video of an ace driver vs. another ace driver the entire race.

But it seems so fun to watch a bunch of dudes drive in a circle for 3 hours.
