Does 2008 Pacquiao beat a 1999/2000 Oscar De La Hoya

Personally I think Oscar and his contemporaries are an overrated bunch.

Prime Oscar was the real deal. His power was respectable and he had the height, reach, heart and chin to beat any version of Pacquiao. I wouldn't be surprised if De La Hoya dropped Pacquiao a couple of times with a counter in a wild exchange.

Prime DLH, the one that went toe to toe with Caesar Chavez and Whitaker would abosotooly maul Pacman

An attempt to dredge up Oscar's greatness again?....I remember when Muhammad Ali was considered the greatest of all time, then Sugar Ray Leonard, then Mike Tyson and on to Oscar de La Hoya and then Manny Pacuiao/Floyd Mayweather.
Oscar was a very good boxer in his time. Thats all.

1999/2000 De La Hoya rolls through Manny.

Two other guys from that era would too.

I don't know.. it's interesting.. I think Mosley gave DLH problems in fight one by using a lot of movement like Pac does.. I can see Pac winning a similarly close decision..

That said, I think that version of DLH gives Mayweather a better fight as well.. he was a handfull for anybody

Agreed, he made it interesting 7 yrs post prime against Mayweather, so it's easy to see that as an even closer fight.

As far as Pac.
It COULD end up being a Trinidad type of finish. But I feel his lack of orthodox technique could be his downfall. I could just see Oscar throwing that counter left hook and catching Manny in the middle of a lunging off balance attack and dropping him. ODLH could hit HARD, was very intelligent, had the handspeed to match Pacman, and a really good chin. The exchanges would've been fun with neither guy backing down.

See I think what made Mosley so tough in their first fight was his unorthadox fighting.. he was switching stances, moving constantly.. stopping and slugging.. DLH could never settle into a game plan..
DLH always had the punch.. but I think barring that landing, Pac wins.. You have to realize, that around that time DLH pulled victory out of defeats mouth against Oba Carr. ... I think he was a little over-rated.. still great.. but def not unbeatable by a guy of Pacs quality

The main point I made in that unorthodox comparison was Pac delivers punches differently than Shane did. Shane was always in balance and not susceptible to a lot of counters. Everything Pac does is susceptible to getting countered something nasty. It's just that when he comes at a guy they're too busy covering instead of keeping their eyes open and throwing back. I've always said that here, even before the Marquez KO. ODLH is a guy that would stand there and fire back in the storm. Eventually Manny would get caught and the fight would change. Oscar was pretty pin point.
How about a 2008 Mayweather against a prime 1999 DLH?

Tough call, would be a chessboxing match cause that what young Oscar did. Stood back read and operated. Floyd is one of the best ever at that. Floyd probably wins down the stretch due to a late round slowing ODLH. But it'd be closer than the 2007 fight (visually).

Yeah I think prime De La Hoya would've won. Prime De La Hoya was so fast and a much better technical fighter than pacquiao.

Rememeber during the pre fight show for De La Hoya vs Pacquiao Freddie Roach admitted that if Oscar was in his physical prime he wouldnt want Manny to fight him. That should tell you all ya need to know about Manny's chances.

I think prime DLH was too big for Pacquiao and he'd keep him on the end of his very fast jab.

But I do think Pacquiao was better at FW than DLH was at any weight or time in his career.

Prime Oscar would have destroyed pacman.. Let's be honest here, pacman is a brawler but his technique is average and his defense is non existent .. Floyd is going to pick him apart sadly

What does this even mean?

I think people are a little too nestalgic about DLH.. he was good, but he didn't really ever have a period where he was just one of the most dominating fighters in the sport once he moved up.. his bouts were generally well contested and his power pulled him out of a hole a few times..
