They definitely need to get scrutinized.

All these hoarders really don't understand what they're asking for. They think they're safe because they stole everything, but if Balkanization happens that will just make them a huge target.

Some doctors have been hoarding hydroxychloroquine.

Should they be allowed to write scripts for themselves, their friends, and their families even if none of these people have documented conditions that require the medincine? I say they need to be scrutinized.

In general, you shouldn't be treating yourself or family members/friends. AMA (and other organizations) have ethic policies regarding treating family members and when it would be considered ok. Minor problems (e.g. my kid needs a refill on her asthma inhaler, my wife needs steroid cream for eczema) are fine. Urgent issues where another prescriber isn't readily available are fine too. Stocking up on hydroxychloroquine for covid-19 seems like it would be frowned upon but not egregious enough probably for a licensing board to take action against you.

The should most certainly be able to write prescriptions for themselves and anyone they live with. Many physicians and nurses are taking it because it looks like it might actually lessen the degree of the disease or stop it from attacking your immune system altogether.

I think the least we can do is let them protect themselves and their families since they are the ones in most danger of infection

And LOL at the Huffington Post article saying a doctor request of enough to treat 2 people is definitely hoarding.

I mean wtf happened to journalism

This is just off-label prescribing of an approved drug. It's entirely legal - even in the midst of a pandemic.

Scrutinize the doctors. Then euthanize their families to send a message.

Maybe Sherdog lawyers can chime in

It's an ethical violation without question. It's probably criminal too, doctors go to jail all of the time for writing prescriptions without justification, but hard to prove unless it's a lot of such prescriptions.
