Docs cant say what's wrong with my knee

Hi guys,i've been off the mats for a couple of months because of a recuring knee injury, it pops out when it is bent and someone pushes on it; . Otherwise nothing happens. i need to extend my leg to get my knee back where it should be, and it's quite painful. Then it just pops back in.

Basically my shin can slide out of the socket when my knee is completely flexed, like when i try to recover full guard from the bottom or when i go for a butterfly guard sweep. it doesnt seem to be the patella, more like the meniscus.

it's been a couple of months since it first happened. 3 weeks ago i decided to stop trying and to get it checked. MRi, X-Ray, Scan, doc, ostheopath, none of them could see anything wrong with my knee. At that time the injury was fresh and i didnt want them to bend my knee though. But still, scans and X-ray show a healthy knee, ligaments,tendons, and the meniscus dont show any sign of damage..


The ostheopath and the surgeon both said my knees were really loose, hyperflexible they say. Might be an explanation, but they havent seen anything else that would ressemble a cause for an injury.



After three weeks off, i can squat all the way down. But i feel like something on the inside of my knee is being streched when i do so, probably the meniscus.


i've got a kneebrace, supposedly meant to maintain your patella. Do you think it would be worth wearing?

i'm planning on being back on the mats in 10 days or so. After 5 weeks off.

it sucks. i wanted to dedicate this year to judo and bjj to have another mma fight in a few months.

any info very much appreciated.

Enjoy your training fellas, you only realize how great it is to be healthy and injury free when you have been forced to take a break for a while like i am right now.
 
Damn that sucks. Don't be in too big of a rush to get back on the mats though. Its not worth making your knee a bigger mess. Try the brace and see if it helps, and maybe try to arrange a second opinion.
 
The meniscus is the padding in the middle of your knee. If you are feeling something stretching and then the dislocation, then I would guess it is one of the tendons or ligaments in your knee. Since the doc's said your knee was loose then it is prolly one of your ligaments. That sucks a lot.
 
at the same time the docs have performed a pivot test on my knee and they say my ligaments are fine, the knee is just a little bit loose, but so is the other. And according to the MRi everything is in place and healthy. Really hard to explain. Could be a minor meniscus tear, some of them are hard to detect, but hey usually heal on their own if they arent that bad.

i'll be back on the judo mats on friday night, if it keeps popping out the next step will be an arthroscopy.

I will make this short but i had the same symptoms , they bothered me for over two years. Finally after a third opnion , and my own research. I have found my problem to be

I have worn a heavy patella brace since ,and have worked hard on my quad strength so far so good. Maybe this will help?

I just hope that maybe this is his problem ,not that it is.

And yes there are some tools for doctors. My first response to my problem was oh you mri looks normal lets do arthroscopic surgery. Yeah um no again i hope this will help.

Let's make sure we're talking about the same thing here.

By osteopath, do you mean orthopod? Or do you mean that this osteopath is/was your primary care physician?

Second, where/what are the qualifications of the surgeon you saw? I assume he was the orthopedic surgeon, yes? What is his specialty?
 
i just hurt my knee lately too after using too many triangles during quite a number of randori on a single day. Maybe techinique wrong, hurt my knee. damn 4 days without training still not good.

Knee injury are the worst!
 
If docs can't say, i doubt random people on Sherdog will be able to help you much haha

Could be your back or spine. Alot of times when they can't figure out what's wrong with the legs it ends up being some kind of back problem.

It doens't sound like it in this case but you might want to get that checked out if you can't figure out the problem.
 
thanks for the replies guys, i dont believe it is the previously described symptom because my knee is not painful at all, it is just prone to pop out when i bend it.

i'm surrounded with orthopedic surgeons, my mom and my uncles are surgeons.


injuries suck, two months off the mats when grappling is your life it turns you upside down, really. i've been bored to death, wasting my money in stupid nights out like the other kids.
