First off, I should say that yes I was going for Cormier, and yes Jones did a fantastic job of controlling the range, pace, and ultimately using cormiers game plan against him by using the cage to his advantage.... BUT the purpose of this thread is to see everyones opinion on Cormiers corner.

    - Is it just me or is the continual "do you want it" between rounds in Cormiers corner (AKA) just plain stupid?

    - Not to take away from Jones' dominant performance, but seriously, give the guy some technical advice... just saying

You're absolutely right. You could see his hope diminish with every takedown Jones had. But would it not be useful to throw in some technical advice, even if youre going to try and get him pumped?

They did give him advice but they opened up with "Do you want it?".

They were probably thinking saying that would motivate him but DC's answer was "I'm Trying" and it caught them off guard.

Cormier mentally broke, they were trying to get him to snap him out of it to actually fight back.

Nothing would have mattered. He gassed HARD going into the 3rd round. His head was down. Wasn't a lack of heart, was a lack of energy.

He didn't mentally break. Jones' wrist control wouldn't allow DC to get anything off after the 2nd round.

He looked like he wanted to quite between 4th and 5th rounds.

I totally agree. A lot of corners are just yelling meaningless shit like "Go out there and work! We need this last round! Dig deep! You're a warrior!" Tell him what to do for god's sake!

Seemed fine to me. Cormier wasn't going for it at all. He didn't let his hands go like he should of and his corner kept telling him to do.

What I didn't understand was that he was having a lot of success with the uppercuts in the clinch. Why advise him to get a takedown in the 5th when you think he's going to have to KO him to win?

Javier Mendez was way way to0 frantic in there. He sounded very worried. Compare that to Jackson and Winklejohn. They are calm and give the advice their fighter needs

I think Jones opponents underestimate his clinch strength and since they can't pace themselves they gas at weird times.

I doubt that will happen to DC again.

Is this legit? I heard the "Do you want it" but missed this response. If so, damn that's gotta be so depressing. I like both of those guys, but to talk all that shit and then be mentally broken like that has gotta be tough.

Whats funny is i and pretty much every other non hugger predicted that exact scenario. My facebook post as of yesterday was 'DC goes for takedowns in the first, gets stuffed, clinches up but gets battered, gases in the second, dominated from there on out to a decision victory to jones.
