Or is the trouble, (cancelled events, legal trouble, drug use etc) worth the amount Jones pulls in? I'm starting to think no. I think whether USADA gives Jones a 2 year or 4 year suspension, it doesn't matter. I think they should let Jones go and if Jones can get some fights over in Japan to stay active and has his shit together in that 2 to 4 year window, who knows, maybe welcome him back? Because I think Jones being suspended for 2 or 4 years, Jones will be inactive. With all that idle time who knows what he's gonna do. I imagine Jones is gonna go on a bender and either hurt himself or others. I loathe Jones as much as someone I don't know personally but i don't hate him nor do I wish him ill will. I really want to see him change for the better.

But if you let him go, you may very well be boosting a rival league (like Rizin) by letting a Jon Jones fight there. It wouldn't be a good "business" move

Oh he's done for PR's sake alone, well you'd think anyway but they'll probably just put his contract on ice till things blow over.

Fuck no.

Cutting jones just gives him to competition. It would be a huge buisness error.

Rizin is an overseas company. Not really a rival company. 1 fighter doesn't make a company. Who will Jones fight in Rizin? Jeff Monson? Lol. 1 man can't carry a company. Also the cloud of peds will still be over him. They can't keep him under contract out of spite. Especially if its 4 years. I know NSAC gives out 2 year suspensions. USADA can give out 4.

They will make him honor his contract just to keep him from Bellator after he comes back from suspension.

Don't fighters have contracts where UFC must give them a certain # of fights by a certain time? Do UFC contracts freeze if fighter is suspended?

I suspect Jones will fight again elsewhere eventually, but I think UFC will want him back for the $$$.

I understand what you're saying. But you never give a break to anyone that can be considered an opponent. If a company like Rizin go Jones it would be a huge signing and would legitimize them.

Would it kill the UFC? Not at all. But the "smart business move" is to let him sit and serve out his suspension

Why? Are they paying him a salary? No

His contract is about to get frozen up for 4 years. Why gift him to the open market? That would be fucking stupid.

No need to cut him if he is suspended
latest

No way they give him up to competitors...WME is actually dumber than everyone already thinks if they go that route.

I imagine there are clauses that detail situations like this and his rule breaking may nullify previous contract stipulations.

They will keep him and wait to see if he comes back once the suspension is overr.

That is provided he isn't in jail for another stupid move by then.

Jones is so erratic in his behavior that he would be a liability for rival leagues.
So i think it's OK to cut him. I feel like Jones will eventually self-destruct.
Even RIZIN won't be able to give Jones a clean image.

They'll keep him under contract if for no other reason than to keep him from fighting overseas, unless someone offers the right sum to buy his contract. But why would they give an asset away?

I honestly dont think it would matter.
Jones' reputation is so deep in the gutter at this point that no matter where he fights hes not gonna be posting a threat to the ufc.

I agree with the two of you. The only down side I can think of for the UFC is that during Jon's suspension the odds are that he will do something stupid (illegal) and it will be more bad PR (headlines about UFC fighter Jon Jones breaking some law). I don't think the UFC likes their name being associated with criminal acts (bad PR). I think the company will have to weigh all options and decide to do what they think is best for the company (lol, obviously).

A lot of people won't care. Whether that think it wouldn't have made a difference if he was clean or dirty or want to see if he can still deliver, he'd be big for someone else.

Imagine a clean b sample and he goes to Bellator.

Imagine he's suspended for 4 years and decides to fight once it's over. Marketing dream. They probably won't release him, they definitely shouldn't. .
