Do you think reach or natural power is the better physical gift?

Two aspects of fighting that are tools you are simply born with are a long reach (Jones) and that thudding, natural punching power that guys like Lineker have that no amount of training will give you. Which one do you think matters more and which would you rather have given the choice?

I think Jones has shown a long reach is the best God-given tool you can come into the fight game with. You can completely nullify all other styles if the guy can't get at you.

However natural power is gnarly as well and when guys learn to use it correctly (Lawler) they can be some savages

Would rather have power though, just depends on what else you think youre okay at.

 

It takes a lot of skill tobuse reach effectivly alot more than power.

 

Game plan but if I had to choose power. If you use it strategically and don't abuse it, you can't be stopped imagine dual fist KO power. :icon_chee

 

if i could choose to have been born with Henderson ko power or Jones' reach i would choose KO power. Jones is like the only fighter that fully knows how to use reach to his advantage

naa jk it depends how you use it.. One of the shortest guys with super short reach in Lombard rarely has trouble dealing with it.

 

Reach, especially when utilized correctly.

 

Power is easier to obtain than reach

 

It depends if you can apply them properly.

 

You have to actually work on your game to utilize your reach and minimize the drawbacks. We've seen lanky fighters be clueless with how to go about keeping their opponent outside time and time again. Even those that implement it better still have trouble inside.

Power generally is easier to put to use and requires less technique. We've seen fighters go quite far with just power and a decent base.

 

I would rather have the reach

Reach advantage helps offensively and defensively
And Can be used to dictate pace of fight

Punching power isn't a guarantee and you actually have to connect for it to matter

Because you don't need to learn anything to use power. You have to learn how to use your reach.

 

Also, I think it's been well documented that power in your hands and/or legs is much more easy to apply in fights compared to reach.

I mean, how many guys effectively use reach (meaning length, not angles or distance) besides a future GOAT in Jon Jones? No one is really coming to mind...

 

Good question. I believe its reach. No matter how much power you have, if i have reach, i can punch you when you cant punch me. Period.
