In other words, do you think that they have god-like qualities that are held by only one in millions, the way the media portrays them? I don't think they do, although some are very beautiful and talented, many of them are in the game because they're related to an already established star (son, brother, sister, grandson, granddaughter, niece, nephew, etc.)

Had they not been related to an already big star, there odds of success would have been the same as any other Tom, Dick, or Lisa who moves to Hollywood with big dreams, and knows nobody.

I recently watched The Avengers, and I really can't think of anything that Scarlett Johansson did, that couldn't be done by just about anybody with a few months of training. Besides being so hot. So, people like her cheapen it.

But guys like Daniel Day Lewis are the real deal, real artists. Some actors do just get their careers mostly by their looks, while writers rarely ever do.

Someone like Shia LaBeouf is a transcendent human being but it seems like most actors/actresses are just cans who happened to be in the right place/know the right people

It's apparent when you see them in interviews on talk shows or whatever and they're incredibly boring

Lol fuck no. I don't care about them (I like horror movies anyway, not many "Stars"). I could sit next to Brad Pitt and Rober De Nero and wouldn't look twice...... But, if I was next to say Max Cavalera or Kerry King I would get all wet. Probably because I consider them actually talented...

Someone with DDL's work ethic, combined with his talent is very rare. But yeah, although ScarJo is very sexy, there are tens of thousands of 18-24 year-old beauty queens in LA and NY trying to make it big who are just as hot. If they trained at a good acting school for 6 months and were the granddaughter of Kirk Douglas or somebody, they'd be stars for sure.

Some I've met have been really lovely and really funny. My husband's worked with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jared Leto and they were really up themselves to the point of speaking via PAs rather than my other half's staff.

Movie stars aren't often that great at their chosen profession

Not special, some of them are very talented though. I don't hate them like some people, but the culture of worshipping them is weird. They're also not the most beautiful people in the world. I've seen women who are absolutely perfect and they're not famous.

.....You don't think De Niro is talented?

Some people are great actors, some people have great parental instincts, some are great at Mario Kart, some can jerk off over 10 times in one day. The talents they possess happen to be ones that allow them to make a lot of money and earn a lot of fame.

Short answer, no.

I've seen thousands of women who are every bit as pretty as any actress.

The worship is crazy though, if you're in a movie, to millions you are a god, it doesn't even matter what you look like or whether or not you can act.

They are very good at acting... Id say being good at acting is hard, but not quite as hard as being a professional at say, a sport.
They are worshipped because they are sexy and because they are in film, which is pretty much viewed by the largest audiences in the world.
They are talented though, and I believe they have the work ethic to get good at acting. (And probably the creativity and personality.)

I put almost all types of entertainers at the same level though, so the best actor ever would be a little less skilled and creative as Michael Jackson, who would be on par with the best rock band, who would be on par with the best screenwriter/director, who would be on par with the best fiction book writer etc... Making a movie entertaining is a very hard thing to do.

Right place right time

And with the exception of few very talented ones, I think being willing to compromise helps a lot in entertainment

Does your husband work for Glee? surprised about Leto, is he 'that' famous?

Nah.

I don't understand people who get star struck when meeting them either.
