Do you think Cormier's weight gain will be a benefit or detriment in his fight with Stipe?

DC weighed in at 246lbs. for his upcoming fight which is a far cry from his 205lbs. LHW division weigh-ins. Granted, he gains a considerable amount of that weight back by fight time. He may be only 10-20lbs. different than his LHW fight weight. Some say that DC's weight gain for his UFC 226 against Stipe is a benefit, others say it's a detriment. For those who say it's a negative they say that he'll be slower, not as agile, gas, and other issues. Some say it's a positive and that he'll actually have more cardio since he's not doing an extreme weight cut, will be able to absorb more body shots, will be stronger, will have more strength in the clinch, more powerful strikes, and a heavier top game, etc.....

Don’t see it being a big factor. He has a bright history at HW

It will help with strength, for sure.

He was drained as fuck at LHW. Looked like death at the weigh-ins.

he did that to be more of a tank in there hoping the extra weight will help his durability and strength/power. from a cardio perspective im not sure but it will def help his strength in the clinch and his power

DC s biggest problem is that he's 40 yrs old. He's probably at his natural in training weight. Don't see it as a pr

It'll definitely help if he can establish the clinch game. I think people are overestimating the effect an extra 20 lbs or so will have on Cormier's stamina. The added weight, plus not having had to drain himself through a weight cut, will definitely help DC.

I was not expecting DC to come out this fucking fat. And yes, FAT. He looks out of shape. If his plan really is to 'out cardio' Stipe, it really doesnt look like it.

Hopefully, we'll see.

Benefit, because grappling with another big dude.

I think it will be a benefit. Simply not having to cut weight will be a big plus for him, and I have to believe that DC knows himself best and there is a good reason for packing on a few pounds.

I don't know, man.

But I'll tell you this, Stipe is durable as fuck. That's why I knew he'd beat Francis.

This fight is not going to be as high paced as it was against Jones, but he will have to use his cardio to keep Stipe at bay with the take down threats and lots of feints.

The problem for Daniel is he needs some extra weight to not get bullied by the bigger man but doesn't want too much that he's sluggish and saps his own cardio moving around.

Personally I think all this talk about his coaches advising him to train and fight heavier is bull shit. It's just an excuse for DC to eat like he wants to. Nonetheless I'm super pumped for this fight and do think Stipe knocks him out.

A detriment but it don't matter. All of Dc's wins have been complete dominations maybe minus Gustafsson. Watch as he beats Stipe tonight. Come back to this post

Honestly I’m not sure how durable Stipe is. Wasn’t like he was surviving a mauling from Francis.

We’ve never seen anyone beat on Stipe and Stipe come back from it.

He weighed 238 for his fight with Barnett. Though he did look kinda fat for the weigh-ins, it's only 8 lbs. If it was 20, I could see it mattering. His real problem is that he actually thinks he can stand with Stipe. On the inside, Stipe can knock him out going backwards. And the outside, Stipe will piece him apart with laser-sharp strikes.

What about speed? I feel like he needs to be fast in there. Stipe looks fit as hell. The best shape of his career..

He looked well fed... No weight should be good for him imo

Hard to say. DC is deceptively fast for his size. But not sure if even at his fastest that trading on the feet with Miocic is a wise idea.

Stipe can literally throw a 12 inch punch with his right hand and KO most heavyweights.

It depends on the situation. If somehow he gets Stipe down it will definitely help in keeping him down. If he can't get the takedown i think that it will affect his stamina.
