Title says it all.
The trilogy ended approximately 10 months after their second fight.

What do you say, Sherdog?

Vote & Discuss!

Absolutely. A trilogy in under 2 years is always a no-go. JDS shouldn't have gotten the shot with a win over Hunt.

Yeah, I said it when it was announced. I thought they rushed it. I'm a Cain fan, so I'm not complaining about the results; however, I think it would have been a better trilogy if they gave it a little more time.

With that said, if both of them continue to wreck contenders, I wouldn't mind seeing them scrap again. Mark Hunt fought Jerome Le Banner 4 times in K-1, and those were some of the best fights in K-1 history.

Nope. The better fighter won. That's what it's about.

It's not like they had immediate rematches.

considering almost 50% of sherdog thought JDS was gonna win its a moot question. In hindsight im sure many of those 50% will say yes now....

I voted no, but then again, I can see the case for it being too soon.

I only voted no, because it was only fair for JDS to beat one fighter to get his rematch, which is exactly all Cain had to do to get his rematch with JDS.

Ya but I also would have thought it'd be weird if the ufc only got Cain to win 1 before a rematch and got JDS to win more.

Both guys should gone through 2-3 guys first. Dunno who whouldve got the other title shots though

No. They are the best 2 heavyweights on the planet so I'd like to see who comes out on top. The UFC's love for Cain cannot be denied though. Cormier (his training partner, top 5 HW) has a fight the same day while being meaningless to the division, "First Mexican Champion" and Dana's post fight reaction to Cain getting KO'd in the first fight prove this. Sooner the better obviously

Yea, I agree.

I won money with Cain in the trilogy but I really believe this fight was kinda soon to happen.

I'm a fan of both guys though, and I believe it will take a long period of time for JDS to get a title shot again, which means he's stuck in "limbo", because he destroys everyone not named Cain in the HW division, imo.

Meh, JDS was/is still the #2 heavyweight so I really had no problem with it. And if either of them had lost during a longer timespan, the promoter would've lost the chance at closing out the trilogy at least for the foreseeable future. We've seen so many superfights ruined because the promoter waited too long to make them.

It was the right time, I just feel JDS could have had a much better game plan. Win a couple rounds and in the 5th round decides the victor.

Yes, especially considering there were guys like Werdum around that haven't had a shot yet.

Yes, it was too soon. 3 fun fights tho. Hope JDS keeps his desire to fight & Cain doesn`t get all content being champ & stays hungry to prove he`s the best HW ever.

Yes. The UFC didn't want to risk one of them losing (even though I doubt they would have) or something...

I agree I thought the 2nd fight was too soon because it's not like Cain was a dominant champion and then got KOd.

Yes, I see where you're coming from.
I think that Cain vs. JDS 2 also happened too soon.

Agreed.

Even if Junior won, I would have been happy but still would have thought it was too soon for a rubber match

In hindsight it could of been hyped better if they both had 1 more fight, but it ended up being overall a success.
