Used to always say I box when people asked me what I enjoy doing. But always having to deal with the same **** which consists of that person taking some weird fighting stance and playfully hitting you I just tell people I do nothing but play video games all day.

Seriously, why do people think it's a good idea to playfully hit a boxer? I often have trouble controlling my ring reflexes when people do that and they go "calm down bro just playing"

I've never hit someone for playfully boxing me but if someone asks me I'll tell them what I do. I don't announce it to the world like some people though.

If you cant control your body because someone playfully hits you, its time to go train to control yourself, and no, it's not auto reflex to jab someone in the face it they hit you in the arm.

I just either say i do boxing or just "martial art" in general. Most of the people in here dont know that much about combat sports aside from boxing and olympic point fighting

Ijust say I do Muay Thai and wrestling, as those seem to be more well known than saying MMA or UFC

You need more self control. I think you are subconsciously looking for situations where you can show people what you know. I have reached black belt in several martial arts and I could care less if someone playfully hits me. I usually play along but act like I can't fight. I actually find it fun.

i was telling people Muay Thai and some people didnt know so i started saying "Thai boxing"...one of the first people i said that to was a dental assistant chick and she was like "oh, is that like Muay Thai?"

i felt like an idiot...turned out she did MT at a gym pretty close to mine. back to saying Muay Thai after that...

I tell them I train "Mixed Martial Arts" and they say "oh cool". So many people do MMA these days, I don't think it's a big deal anymore.

If I tell people I box, almost always without fail, they mention MMA or UFC. To which I reply, "I enjoy watching it but I like boxing better." And that's the end of the conversation.

Sometimes I'll get, "What kind of boxing?" and I'll be like, "Uh...just regular boxing boxing? The one where you punch people in the face boxing?"

It's always nice to occasionally get people who kind of know something about it and we can talk about recent fights, or they ask me questions on how hard it is cut weight, etc.
