those Lawler,Masvidal fights were brutal asf , coupled with the fact that he's already well into his 30s and I can see him just calling it a day. Not everyone needs to be a champ in the UFC to prove their dominance and be remembered and Askren is already a two promotion belt holder and legendary wrestler.

Another thing that has to be factored in is that his striking skills and athleticism don't really seem to be UF C level and if you put him up against more top guys he could get really hurt, but at the same time he can't just exclusively train those areas the way he would need to cus it would hurt his wrestling . This whole situation is just really strange because he has Had two fights but we don't even know what caliber fighter he is yet .

Just curious as to what Sherdog thinks honestly.

We will see. He won a fight against a really tough guy in Lawler and lost a fight due to a one in a million offering from Masvidal. He could be the champion one day, a gatekeeper, or not even in the running.

I really don't think he cares too much about that

    IMO His intentions are
    1) ride out contract make some $$$
    2) make a "name for himself" to set himself up for a chael like career post retirement

Yes his striking is not good enough and his body is soft as hell no matter how strong he is which makes him easy to KO and toss over your head. Muscles stabilize the neck among other things, such as helping you not look like a girl when you strike.

    We’ll he already retired once.

Something tells me that Ben hardheaded and will keep competing.I think even in victory he takes tremendous damage from these quick, athletic guys.

Should fight Maia next. At worst he gets choked out.

Maybe not but what I am interested in styles and match ups and Askren is very interesting. Every fight he is in is a must see to me.

I don't want to see him retire, I want to see him fight at least 2 more times in the UFC. As of right now, I do not think he's UFC caliber, I don't think he won that Lawler fight. If he loses against Chiesa or Maia then we'll know that OneFC and Bellator really were a step down when Ben was fighting. Inb4 "muh Douglas Lima is world class" huehuehuehue

Love Askren, but he's not getting past the Kamarudeen from Nebraska. Whether he retires or not depends on the amount of damage he takes in his next fights. Askren has a history of taking heavy shots even when fighting non-UFC caliber fighters

If he gets KOd in his next couple of fights, I'm sure he will consider retirement.
