Wtf you forreal asking?
GSP wouldn't have been having a barnburner with Colby. It would have been one-sidedKamaru's legacy as an MMA fighter is great. His performances against Buckley and even Khamzat after losing twice to Leon only add to it - contrast it with other champs who lose, are on the older side for MMA and then quickly leave the upper echelon of tje division.
But the only area his legacy may be greater than GSP is more exciting fights as a champion. I was thinking this morning how Colby was only interim champ, but was clearly a champ-level fighter who fought two HoF-worthy fights with Usman.
Usman also had the Burns and Masvidal finishes. GSP didn't have fights like that as champion, particularly winning ones - Condit had exciting moments but it was when GSP was hurt with the kick. Hendricks was a legendary fight where GSP had to dig deep, but one where GSP lost the fight - even if he won a narrow decision. The BJ fights are good, but still don't hold a candle to Usman-Colby for me. Usman had barn burners where he won (some debate with Colby decision and TKO, but nowhere near GSP-Hendricks level) and unlike GSP his own successful and exciting offence in those fights played a huge role in those being barn burners.
gtfo of here with your more exciting fights bullshit. You havent watched a GSP fight at all then have you?Kamaru's legacy as an MMA fighter is great. I have Hughes third. He was great but BJ and GSP both beat him as did Alves. Dunno, maybe it’s just recency bias or that I only started following MMA not long before GSP avenged his loss (2006ish)Not a chance, that belongs to Matt Hughes.
He was the GOAT before the GOATs
Even if he did all that, still no. He's just "matching" GSPs pro column while having a lot more in his negatives columnIf Usman wins the belt back, defends against Edwards, and then defends it like another time then maybe. But gsp would have that MW title win over him. So he would probably have to move up and get that belt too.
Basically it's not happening.
Yeah it blew my mind that he outwrestled Fitch. I was like WTF? The best wrestler in MMA is a French Canadian Karate guy?it's crazy that GSP was able to take down every one.. top wrestlers, BJJ guys...Hughes, Koscheck, Fitch, Hendricks, Diaz, BJ Penn
none of them could stop his takedowns
He also beat GSP, Penn, Gracie, etc.I have Hughes third. He was great but BJ and GSP both beat him as did Alves. Dunno, maybe it’s just recency bias or that I only started following MMA not long before GSP avenged his loss (2006ish)
You ok dude? Breathe slow.gtfo of here with your more exciting fights bullshit. You havent watched a GSP fight at all then have you?
Youd have to be a prize fuckwit if you think that snoozefest of Colby/usman was at all exciting. 2 wrestlers who were too chickshit to wrestle so we got to see some very amateur standup with some ' quality' wall and stall foot stomping. HOF worthy fights? HAHAHAHAHAHAH
Jesus fucking christ
STFU
Not even close. Usman had the potential to be the clear cut #2 but he wasted a LOT of time with rematches and was not exactly fighting in the cream of the crop era either when virtually anyone who got 2 wins over some combination of Demian Maia/RDA/Askren/Woodley's ghost got skyrocketed to a title shot.
Instead, he is in contention with Hughes for #2 (personally, I have Hughes as #2 but arguments can be made) but that is his absolute peak. He is NOWHERE near the top slot; no one is.
Not in GSP league but I'd say Usman is clear cut #2 at this point.
Didnt look that far from GSP going into the 1st Leon fight actually, had he defended a couple more times the discussion would be open
Hughes didnt fight in the cream of the crop era neither if only because there was Pride hiring top talent in his weight range even if matched up with monsters, as Sakuraba or Misaki.
Pride got the Shooto champ (Anderson) while UFC the runner-up (Sakurai) because pay was better in Japan. Same for Pele when he was very highly regarded and who KOed Hughes himself.
Usman losses are much fewer. vs Khamzat if anything got even more credit in my book
I have GSP Usman Hughes in that order, each clear cut in his position
I commented on that regarding Hughes as well.I can see prime Usman beating GSP head to head, but it terms of "greatness" having him over Hughes seems debatable. Primarily because Usman's title reign is a joke. We had to sit through two separate defences v. Masvidal. Now of course the KO in the rematch was iconic, but that was still a second title shot to Jorge fucking Masvidal.
