do you rate Kamaru's legacy as greater than GSP's?

No way. If he hadn't come unstuck against Leon in 2022, and had then put together another 3-4 solid wins on his unbeaten run after that, maybe there would be a serious discussion.

I do think head to head he would have given GSP a tough fight though, and obviously he is still fighting and just added another decent win to his resume so he could still potentially close the gap more with a late career run.

I often think that title wins on their own aren't the absolute argument when it comes to greatness discussion like I see many people do, and I do think that the average level of MMA has risen over the years especially in lighter weight classes.

However what GSP did remains far ahead of what Usman accomplished. Being as uncharitable as possible he lost max 12 rounds in his entire career when he started fighting top 10 level guys as soon as his 6th pro fight in a 28 fight career.

Kamaru legacy suffered from the UFC matchmaking where he had to win a crazy amount of fight in a row to get to go against ranked guys and the ranking keeping old men highly ranked.

Not just no, HELL NO.

their really is no argument that someone is above GSP in WW right?
What would you be making the argument on? Number of defenses, no unavenged losses, retiring as champion regardless of how contentious the Hendricks decision was, level of competition are all GSP.
Even if we go on finishes, GSP has 4 finishes in title fights to Kamaru's 3, and only had 2 career losses total vs Kamaru's 2 in a row against one guy who didn't turn out to be great.
Kamaru also nowhere near as dominant. Didn't GSP win something like 25 rounds straight until dropping a round against Shields after an eye poke which the ref didn't see?

Thing is Colby&Jorge wins haven't aged that good and that's most of his record as a champ.

Not his fault really and probably he could've beat GSP on a good day.

Very true, I could never remember him submitting anyone, I had to quickly look it up because I can't remember everything that happens, from memory I don't remember him tapping anyone, so apparently he has 1 submission win which was TUF. Thats really crappy considering how many times he's on the ground
Too busy drilling foot stomps to train subs

LOL no.

Marty wasted a good part of his best years fighting Colby and Masvidal. Then he could not even get past Leon Edwards for fucks sake.
