OK, I'm new to PFL, and I like a lot of what I see. Sorry for sounding (being) so noobish on all this.

    I see PFL's point structure of 3pts for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss, and 3pts for a 1st round finish, 2 for a 2nd round finish, and 1 for a 3rd.

    1) Do I have that right? Did I miss anything?
    2) What do you think of this?

I'm fascinated that a guy like Vinny M can lose his first fight but win his next in the second round and possibly be equal with someone who's 2-0. So now I'm wondering what people who have been following this for awhile think.

A few thoughts off the bat:
    1) Americans may not get this, but Rugby Union fans ARE certainly used to the idea behind getting more points for more impressive wins.
    2) And Americans kinda should anyway. For example, College Football and Basketball rankings are often indirectly impacted by how dominant a wins is (unlike the professional league sports where a win is a win, period).
    3) My guess is we all agree, no matter how flawed it is, it's better than title shots being granted for popularity instead of merit (e.g. a cheap shot at UFC).

    Happy New Year.

Yeah I like it, it's merit based but gives a lot of incentive to go for a finish. Though that doesn't seem to stop Lance Palmer laying and praying his way to millions of dollars.

The point system seems to be working fine. But like any tournament the biggest issue is injury/replacement of fighters. Guys that lost are all of sudden pushed back in and that to me I guess makes it feel cheap on some level. I'm not sure how you fix that though.

I think the 2 fights in 1 night is really rough.

    Love it.
UFC should do the same with the Win bonus, it should be a Finish bonus.

I miss it. Actually, I miss 8 man 1 night tourneys (3 fights in 1 night). To me, that's the real test of "best" / "toughest" (fighting different styles in the same night and not necessarily knowing which and whoever wins 3x is the best that night, instead of 10 week planning for 1 opponent/style.)

But I begrudgingly accept that we've moved on, probably for all the right reasons.

I'm not sure what the right reasons are.
Invicta is doing it and it works well.

When Van Buren won the Phoenix Series, she fought 3 times this way:
    Quarter: 1x5
    Semi: 1x5
    Final: 3x5

That's the same total time that any champ or UFC main eventer has to fight.

PFL is making 2x5 and 3x5 in one night.
They could easily make (if AC has no problem with the rounds' time):
    Quarter: 1x3, 1x3
    Semi: 1x3, 1x3
    Final: 1x4, 1x4, 1x4

24 mins total for 3 fights instead of 2.
Or just follow Invicta's way but I'm not really sold on one round fights.

I think their point system is fair but sometimes I don't like judges' decisions just like in any promotion. So many weird decisions.

Hardly would make someone the toughest, maybe in an anime but in real life fighters will draw different caliber of opponents.
