This notion has been repeated alot since UFC 247.

The answer is no but the majority of new UFC champs since 2016 finished their title fight.

Of the ones that became new champ by decision they had 1 or more of the following; 2 to 1 (as high as 5 to 1) strike differential, near finish, stark damage advantage, dominant rounds, TDs w/top time, among other factors.

Reyes did have a claim to win 48-47. The performance would however be among the least clear of UFC title winning performances since 2016. This may shed light on the judging and any preconceived notion about a standard for dethroning champs.

    Here are the title changes of;

    2019

Usman over Woodley - Domination, Woodley outstruck 5 to 1
Poirier over Holloway(Interim title) - Stark damage difference, dominant rounds for Poirier
    Adesanya over Whittaker - Finish
Stipe over Cormier II - Finish
    Andrade over Rose - Finish
Cejudo over Moraes(No incumbent champ)- Finish
    Zhang over Andrade - Finish
Adesanya over Gastelum(Interim title) - Competitive fight but Gastelum outstruck 2 to 1, 10-8 minimum Rd 5.
Volkanovski over Holloway - A struggle to even give Holloway 2 rds though 2 judges did.

    2018

Valentina over Joanna(No incumbent champ) - Joanna at best won a round and that is what the judge gave her.
Cejudo over MM - Here is a narrow dethroning of a champ.
    Nunes over Cyborg - Finish
Khabib over Iaquinta(No incumbent champ)- All rounds to Khabib
Jon Jones over Gus II(No incumbent champ) - Finish
    Cormier over Stipe - Finish

    2017

    Holloway over Aldo - Finish
Whittaker over Romero(No incumbent champ) - Clear decision
Cyborg over Evinger(No incumbent champ) - Finish
Jones over DC II - Finish, overturned to NC
DC over Rumble(No incumbent champ) - Finish
Ferguson over Lee(Interim title) - Finish
    Namajunas over Joanna - Finish
    Dillashaw over Cody - Finish
    GSP over Bisping - Finish

    2016

Cruz over Dillashaw - Cruz never was defeated for the title but was challenging here. 2nd close decision over a reigning champ nevertheless.
    Tate over Holm - Finish
Jones over OSP(Interim title) - Finish
    Stipe over Werdum - Finish
    Bisping over Rockhold - Finish
    Alvarez over RDA - Finish
Aldo over Edgar - Edgar took a round at most
    Nunes over Tate - Finish
    Woodley over Lawler - Finish
    Conor over Alvarez - Finish
Holloway over Pettis(Interim title) - Finish

Depends if the deadly uppercut is delivered.

No, but having judges that aren't bona fide useless would be a start.

What you are saying REALLY drives the point home that Reyes did the least to convincingly take the belt but people view it a HUGE robbery. It just isnt.

The real question is, how many uppercuts does it take to fill a room................

    Bad decisions will always happen.

Don't let it go to the judges.

An average room is approximately 420 square feet. The avg uppercut fills approximately 3.6 square feet of atmosphere with the presence of the just bleed god.

As a result it takes approximately 116 metric uppercuts to fill the average room.

No but gassing in the 4th and 5th isn't a good look. Doesn't mean you didn't win the first 3, tho...
