Do you consider Billy Joel as one of the greatest musical artists of all time?

And he bears some relevance in modern song lyrics ?

Is shakespear considered a great writer or not? This is hardly a riddle.

Uptown Girl is just dated. It was a monster hit and sort of typified the sound of the 80s. Its a good song that people in this thread just don't care for.

I don't much care for Elvis. Does that mean he wasn't a special performer?

Guy did something right.

"Billy Joel pulled, then fucked the shoes right off of Christine Brinkley, nuff said"

In a nutshell, Joel is a poor man's - a very poor man's - Elton John. Joel's career best songwriting never touched the best of Elton's first 10 albums. And as a vocalist and a piano player EJ was far and away superior.

Not a chance. Ask 90 percent of musicians, and they will tell you the same

I've been playing music for 25 years and I disagree.

I like Elton John too, but other than the fact that they both play piano and sing, they are not really stylistically similar at all and anyone with any musical knowledge would agree with that.

What, in your opinion ,makes a band or musician great?

I mentioned it in my first post in that it is someone that left an indelible mark. I don't believe he has done that. He certainly had an impressive career, but not an all time great for me.

Disagree with him being a poor man's Elton, or my statement? Sorry, not sure which.

I've been playing music for about the same amount of time. Billy plays a number of instruments, and plays them well. He also wrjtes writes his lyrics. The same cannot be said of elton.

I like Elton too, as im a piano rock guy, but you're right, they are not very similar.

Is Shakespeare a great songwriter ?

You said of billy Joel's lyrics " while not Shakespearean" as if Shakespeare serves as some measure for the quality of a modern songwriter

He doesn't

shakesperain is often used in conjunction with great lyrical ability, I don't understand your point at all.
Either you are trolling or brain dead.
Either way, stop desecrating on this thread with your filth.

He had a tremendous streak of great songs for a few years in the 70s.

Plus he was nailing Christy Brinkley in the 80s

This.

Why not just download them online?

I prefer to have the actual CDs so I'm not limited to just hearing them on my computer. I also have to kill time at the library when my son is at a puppet show or kids workshop so like to browse their collection. There are a ton I would never know or think about even going to look for online.

I am a billy Joel fan , I will not leave this thread just because Seano made a bad analogy

No one said to leave the thread. Just don't be intentionally ignorant.
