I realise most people will just say 'British' but I thought I'd start this discussion anyway.

At college today we were very bored and started arguing over whether Bond was English or Scottish...and the room was split down the middle.

In Skyfall we're shown that Bond was born in Scotland to a Scottish father and he lived there for his early years.

But he's spent most of his life primarily in England and I believe identifies himself as an Englishman.

Whaddya reckon?

Scottish people wear kilts. James Bond does not. Therefore, he is English.

Too easy.:icon_lol:

For the record, according to Fleming himself, Bond is officially half Scottish and half French-Swiss. He grew up in Scotland and attended Fettes Collage in Edinburgh, although he was later expelled.

Genetically speaking, Bond is certainly not English, although he may think of himself as one.

I'd have to say Scottish, mostly because after the first film with Sean Connery came out, Fleming gave some background to the character and made him Scottish by birth.

Skyfall was terrible.
Is Craig going to do Bond again? I like him but the writing is going to have to be decent in the next film.

I thought Skyfall was a vast improvement on Quantum of Solace, but not quite as good as Casino Royale.

England

I've known too many Scottish people to associate them with the suave, classy gent that is James Bond

I always figured James Bond was a codename given to successive agents, not just one person. I don't know shit about Bond though.

And I've seen too many Englishmen fail to hold their drink to believe that anyone who puts away the booze like Bond could be English.:icon_twis

That's the preferred fan retcon these days. "James Bond."

If he does, it's only begrudgingly. I believe the major component to Bond's character is being an orphan who can't trust anyone (women least of all).

Fair point tbh

Honestly though, Dalton was by far the best Bond so to me he'll always basically be Welsh

Unless you completely ignore all the previous movies every time they reboot the franchise, that's the only theory that makes sense. But to be honest, I just accept that Bond is Bond no matter who plays him.

Both are can countries so it doesn't really matter where he's from.

England but Sean Connery is my favorite bond with Roger Moore is a close second.
