Do you admire/respect any famous people? And if so who?

I read the title to quickly and missed the word any. That one word changes the question significantly and I had to switch my no to a yes. I'm not sure I can immediately come up with an admire list but the respect list is too long to get into.

I respect skill, ability, dedication, intelligence, creativity, tenacity, drive, compassion, you get the idea

Admire: Sir Christopher Lee, Teddy Roosevelt (off the top of my head) RIP to both.

Respect: a hell of a lot of famous people who are actually masters of their craft and decent humans.

Yes. As much as you can without really knowing someone anyway. But even guys like Noam Chomsky were known to (I think, but don’t quote me on this) associate with the likes of Jeffrey Epstein.

There’s a reason for the saying “Never meet your heroes.”

When you get older you begin to realize (if you’re smart anyway) that it isn’t the person you admire so much as their art, or their performance, or the things they say, the way they communicate. And that you never really know any of them u else you know them personally. So best not to really admire anyone.

Teddy Rosevelt.
Lincoln.
Fedor.
Carlos Hathcock

There are people who I like as far as admiring their work, but that's about it. I don't idolize them, or look up to them, or put them on a pedestal that's above, "human beings" and that they're somehow better than others because of their work or fame.

Steve Biko
Louis Riel
Nat Turner
Muhammed Ali
The Oba of Benin

Norman Borlaug (I don't know if you consider him famous enough)

Muhammad Ali, Colin Kaepernick and anyone who risked/sacrificed all or part of their career for their beliefs. It doesn't really matter if I agreed with them, as long as their belief wasn't something monstrous.

Yeah, mainly certain historical figures or self made business business owners. The worst their starting conditions were the better.

Steve buscemi seems worthy of some level of respect due to signing up back into his firefighter unit on 9/11 to go search for survivors

And he never said a thing, info only came out later

I admire authors....

Robert E. Howard
John Steinbeck

Elon Musk. And no, I'm not interested in hearing your political opinions on him.

I'm mostly agnostic to politics, I liked Elon when he was a Democrat and I still like him as a Republican. Because neither has anything to do with why I respect him.

But he's a guy that's actually trying to solve the world's problems. I mean electric cars existed before Tesla, but they totally sucked ass. He's responsible for forcing all auto makers to step up and create electric cars that can compete with gas cars.

And Internet for people who didn't live in big cities used to suck ass. Like if you've never experienced satellite Internet before star link existed then you simply can't understand how bad it was. And star link completely solved that problem.
