Do people overlook the fact that TJ has still only beaten 1 top fighter?

Not a hater, it just seems weird to me that beating Barao again seems to have convinced a lot of fans that TJ is a better and more solid champion than several others. How is TJ only having 2 wins over the same guy better than Lawler beating Hendricks, Rory, and Brown, RDA beating Pettis, Bendo, Cerrone, and Diaz, or Werdum beating Cain, Hunt, Browne, and all the top guys he beat in the past? Even DC aside from beating Rumble has wins over Barnett and Bigfoot back when they were elite at HW plus Mir and Hendo. I'll leave out the women to avoid that controversy in this thread.

Isn't TJ still the least proven male champion based on resume, or am I missing something?

He did destroy one of the top p4p fighters twice in recent memory so it's warranted

Yeah but it's still one guy, he hasn't proven himself against a variety of opponents like every other current champion so it seems weird to rate him over them.

You're right, but the dominance he showed against Barao is pretty telling.

he's a top guy for sure. The only bantamweight that has any chance of beating him right now is assuncao. And even then....

What about Joe Soto? He was a champ in Bellator.

Weidman argument all over again. Results will be the same. TJ is legit.

It's because how the fight went down.
For example, when Weidman beat Silva, the majority thought it was a fluke.

When TJ fought Barao(one of the top p4p), he came out looking like a new fighter. Nothing about him was the same, and he didn't just knock him out, he outclassed him for 4 and a half rounds before finishing him.
So that left a taste in fans mouths that the fight wasn't a fluke.

Least proven, sure. But a guys track record isn't the only way to judge him. You can look at their skill set and evaluate them based off of that. That's how everyone knew people like Cain, Jones and Weidman were major studs before they ever even held belts.

With Dillashaw's speed, striking, movement, wrestling background...it's not hard to see that he is a freakish talent likely to hold a belt longer than guys like Lawler and RDA, whether those guys have a larger number of impressive wins or not. They SHOULD have more impressive wins considering how much more experience in the sport they have.

Dillashaw is gonna reign for a long time if he gets by Cruz which I fully expect him to. I don't feel the same about RDA or Lawler. RDA got smashed by Khabib and I haven't seen the type of improvement neccessary to think that's going to change the second time around, and every Lawler fight is razor thin. Arguably lost both Hendricks fights, losing on cards to Rory heading into 5th. I love the dude, but I don't see a long reigning champ there.

Who's saying this? And why do you value their opinion enough to start a thread about it?

Since he beat THE top fighter I don't have a problem, you're just trying to stir shit up for no reason.

This is exactly what fans were saying after Weidman beat Silva twice.

Lots of responses missing the point completely, I'm not saying he won't turn out to be great I'm asking why people consider him more established than other champs NOW.

People who put TJ over the other champs on their P4P list. It's a discussion forum where people question each other's opinions all the time, what's your problem with this thread in particular? Maybe you should stick to your 'rankings don't matter' shtick.

Because defeating Renan Barao was looked at as a nearly impossible challenge. And Dillashaw did it twice.

The champs that he's more established than are maybe RDA and only slightly maybe Lawler. Both of whom have excellent wins, but are marred by past losses.

No one is out there chanting that TJ is vastly superior to any other champ on the roster*

*DC and Conner aren't champions as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe, but he beat the #1 TWICE. With ease.

Well, I tend not to value a second win over the same guy as much, especially if the first win was dominant, as it seems more to confirm what we already know/have evidence for. It would have proven more to me if he had beaten another highly ranked guy like Assuncao, Cruz, or Faber if they would fight instead of re-beating Barao.

Cruz is not highly ranked in the division and Barao is leagues ahead of Assuncao and Faber. None of your premises are valid; your argument is stupid. Must be confused or the worlds one and only Dillashaw hater.
