Modern country, I mean. I'm sure men used to listen to it, but a modern country station was on in the background while I was with a client today and it all sounds very blatantly marketed toward pulling on the heartstrings of women. And then when I thought about it the only people I know who listen to it are all ladies. Any country fans here? Who are your favorite artists? Is there some male-oriented demographic that's separate from all the lyrics about staying faithful and being a good dad and stuff?

I like zac brown band and josh turner to a certain extent. Beyond that, I dislike 90% of modern country. I'll stick with my metal

I used to listen to it a lot, although not by choice. My parents used to listen to it all the time.

I couldn't name one current country singer, though.

I hate country music with a passion.

I am cool with Dwight Yoakam, however.

I have listened to country since I was a kid. I still prefer 90s country over most of the stuff now, it's turned too mainstream into hipster shit. Most of the shit on the radio these days sounds more like pop than it does actual country. I prefer Cash, Strait, Jackson, old Tim McGraw, Garth, Brooks and Dunne, stuff like that over the shit out here now. But some of it's catchy and there's still some guys I like, Chad Rice, Lee Brice, Scotty McCreery and Blake Shelton is pretty good. But a lot of it doesn't even sound like country music, Sam Hunt is a perfect example, dude doesn't belong on Country radio.

What makes country music sound like country music? Is there more to it than lot of slide guitar and a southern twang?

Most modern country sounds like it was written for the sole purpose of suburban teens putting the lyrics into their social media to show how "country" they are. It's just really over the top. Some of it can be pretty catchy though and I can listen to it in the right mood.

His earlier stuff is certainly country, but he has gotten poppy like all the others it seems.

Not really lmao that's why I hate guys that fake a southern accent like keith Urban, fucker is Australian and when he sings you'd think he was from the backwoods of Alabama. Lot's of fake country singers these days that aren't country at all that broke into the business because it's gone mainstream due to Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Luke Bryan. People that would have never of listened to country music like teenage rich girls and sports jocks in the city now crank country music cuz it's cool. I listen to it because I was born into a redneck family and most of the lyrics remind me of my life growing up. Not so much the lyrics of modern country though, they are mostly shit. That's why I just listen to CD's of 90s country mainly like I mentioned before.

Oh k. So it sounds like a universal trend across the board then, yeah?

I listened to this cuz it came up first, but it sounds just like the other stuff I was thinking of, designed to melt the heart of a country lass.

Was just at Watershed. Grew up with Cash, Strait, Denver and Jennings.

Watershed had guys like Frankie Ballard, Thomas Rhett (who was awesome), Flordia Georgia Line who got the girls going and Dierks Bentley (who was also awesome) to name a few.

Going to another concert in September which has Cadillac Three playing, who are fucking awesome.

Also, Granger Smith just got signed by Aldean's label. Granger Smith is a good artist to start with IMO, and his alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr.

Hank III is good too but he doesn't tour that much.

Ah cool, that paints a good picture. That's kinda the stuff I was curious about, thanks.
