The incredible performances on display at 189 are owed to Conor imo. He creates a 'big event' atmosphere like no other and everyone on the card feeds of it. All participants know there's 1m tuning in, the pressure is on to entertain.... There's an incentive to give it your all. Would Robbie V Rory have been such a classic if it was on 300k PPV projected card? Doubt it.

So many fighters that made that card what it was have a history of excitement and brutality.

The early prelims guys didn't get the memo. Cathal has fought on same card 3 times and stinks it up each time. So, no.

    Conor bless, nonetheless.

Maybe not, but I'll bet the extra hype and spectacle helped.

How do you know they feed off it? He's been at the top on 1 card. All known killers were killers on the card. I see no big difference. Were the fighters pumped? Of course. To claim they somehow were better is f*cking WWE tier logic.

Not a dumb thread clearly Conor has contributed a lot to rejuvenate the sport and bring increased motivation. But the fights Lawler vs Macdonald and Nelson vs Thatch would have been epic anywhere and at any other time. These fighters are self-made and Lawler vs Macdonald was a fantastic fight the first time without Conor. Robbie has become better after his wars with Hendricks, and Rory has grown tremendously. Thank goodness the welterweight division was able to showcase its greatness in front of more people in part because of Conor McGregor.

" All known killers were killers "
    sums up the card nicely.

Could be a coincidence, or it could be that fighters feel they need to steal the show, because they know they won't get noticed otherwise, because let's face it, any card he fights on is going to be The Conor McGregor Show. It's definitely plausible.

    LOL, no!

it's more like UFC trying to put up good matchups in a card they knew would sell good. The fighters in the card were always known for good fights, apart from some of them like Cathal.

All the credit goes to each fighter who performed but Conor definitely set the bar.
