Media Din Thomas with some rough words on Leon Edwards after UFC Fight Night 255 performance

Anyone calling Leon out like that after the second Usman fight comeback are crazy. He had two bad fights. Give him a break. He has nothing to prove at this point
Is like a lame sort of crutch for fighters that didn’t accomplish nearly as much. “Yeah, you beat me but I’m a real fighter and you just an athlete so whatever”

He's 100% right. There are MMA fighters that became good because of their athletic ability. Leon is one of those but he doesn't have a fighters instinct, temperament.

People will say he has tremendous poise, he's calm or it's just his personality but it's not that. It's about that willingness to get into brawl when it's the only option you have in winning.

I think the old argument of

“You are not really a fighter. You are just an athlete”

When you’ve gotten into the cage, won a world title, had tremendous success is very lame. It was always lame.
I think it's a dumb argument too, but I think in this case, it's just a dumb rephrasing (what we can expect out of fighters, even the more well-spoken ones) of what the true issue is with Leon, that his brain and/or heart aren't fully in it when he's in the cage. Leon does need some major restructuring towards not wilting under pressure, even if Din calling him "not a fighter" is obviously as stupid as implying a 36 pro fight veteran isn't a fighter or can't judge fighters
Din paid to talk -- not fight...

I just think it’s an incredibly ridiculous discussion. One that fighters have brought up over and over again that didn’t have the same level of success. People said this about GSP constantly.

The way I see it if you are a real fighter, and I’m not a real fighter I’m just an athlete then you should whoop my ass.

If you can’t whoop my ass, in fact, you lose badly to me

You need to STFU..

Is it? We’ve seen multiple instances of him giving up. He fights with zero urgency when it’s not going his way. It’s the truth.

As someone who competed in a sport at a high level, I think coaches need to be 100% honest to their guys. Leon can either take this and prove him wrong or accept it and realize he hasn’t shown anything different to suggest Din is not right.

Din was already proven wrong when Leon won a world title with a come from behind KO. a fight that Din himself said Leon was giving up and didn't want to be there.

it's wild for someone like Din to talk like that about a guy who has accomplished way more than Din ever did in the sport. if Leon isn't a fighter, neither is Din Thomas.

For real it's like what the fuck does that mean. You were a fighter the 20 plus times you won though. Sometimes fighters make millions and it's like why the fuck am I fighting through this mount just choke me out
