Diego Sanchez says he made 'smart, veteran decision' taking DQ over Michel Pereira

Can't really understand why everyone throws dirt at Diego!
The ref should get the blame here because he did not immediately stop the fight, as it was in the first fight with DQ. Nobody should let a fighter make the decision after an illegal hit. That's what the rules were made for, wasn't it?
And the one who makes the illegal hit is himself to blame. After all, he signed the contract with the underlying rules. He's the idiot if he throws away a sure win or worse, is unable to finish a dominated fighter.
Diego isn´t to blame in any way.
In the Conor era blaming a fighter to take the money is somewhat dumb.....

I think we're arguing 2 different points here. I'm stating Diego's lack of integrity to take the easy way out, while you seem to be saying Diego didn't lie to take the easy way out because Michel committed a foul... They aren't mutually exclusive.

Michel fouled him, then he lied about the effect to get the win.
Think about that: he should´t even be asked after an illegal blow. It´s a DQ, like in the first fight. Intentional, you know?

Bunch of people want to talk about honor and respect but for 100k most would take the win. Respect doesn't pay bills.
Especially since the guy was 2 minutes away from losing, maybe even less, and he ain’t getting more wins, he did the right thing for himself and his career and his post fight life

HUGE respect for diego for owning his decision. If you're shitting on him, you're an idiot. Any of us would have made the same decision if we were in the same position.

speak for yourself

I mean we can bitch at Diego all we want but at the end of the day we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place if Pereira didn’t blatantly break the fucking rules.

It would take ungodly amount of man-hours to reliably decide what was intentional and what was not, because everyone involved would have conflict of interest. People cant read minds yet.Ref calling it is lesser evil.

By intentional, I mean breaking the rules. A head clash for instance would be accidental. And this is only on things that would make the fight stop...to where they would normally ask the fighter if he can continue. A eye poke, ball shot, should be dq. A fence grab, shirt grab, glove grab...should be, say 2 warnings, total and 3rd time dq. Meaning 1 fence grab and 1 glove grab is 2 warnings.

Its just that asking a fighter who got kneed in the head is in no way a good idea. It's like how they interview guys who just got koed
You dont necessarily have your full facilities after such a shot to make a decision that could cost you the fight because you want to give the fans a fight.

If someone were to fish hook, or use small joint manipulation...they would get dq. Automatically. Same should be the case on anything that changes a fighter ability to fight. Not all nut shots or eye pokes are equal..but it has to be a stern rule. No exceptions. A nut shot effects a fighter depending on how hard and how flush. We cant split hairs though and have someone decide these things. I know there are accidental eye pokes and nut shots, but if they were dq fouls I guarantee fighters can make some minor changes and not do it nearly as much. Fighters can mold to the rules far easier than molding the rules to the fighters or ref.

I'm not arguing against you. I just have a problem with what he said in the interview.

He got hit hard. It was illegal. He shouldn't even have been asked if he could continue it should have been an instant DQ.

But, When you tap out or say you can't continue, for any reason, then you quit. There's no shame in it for me. It's a sport.

When you try to check the rules or try to talk to your coach before you make your decision and you have the doctor and ref rolling their eyes at you then you probably are ok to continue.

When you do an interview afterwards and say "I took a veterans decision but i'm not a quitter." then you could have continued but you decided not to.

Fuck that. Own your decisions.
Fair enough. Good points, although I still think you're being a bit harsh.

Only a real dipshit soccer fan here masquerading as an MMA fan hates on Diego for this

So much respect for Sanchez for being honest with himself and the fans. This is really refreshing. It's not worth being beaten within a inch of his life for chump change, reebok kit and some sherbros admiration.

yep he could have lied and said he felt concussed and didnt know up from down.

its prize fighting..he got the prize

A Smith should have done the same vs Jones.
Send him to the School of Self Awareness please. :D

Don't know if already asked, but shouldn't this fight actually end in technical decision?

Like when OSP had poked Villante's eye, making him unable to continue, but since fight was already in the 3rd round, they've scored it and OSP won.

Guess this left to commission/officials discretion?.

He should not talk about like he's a crazy warrior then. He's a crazy chicken now. And the "100k bonus" argument is just a way to downplay his bitch move

I think you’re over-egging the pudding. It’s correct that doing the rational thing works against his branding as a guy who gives zero F’s. He clearly gives a non-zero amount of F’s. Chicken is unfairly harsh though IMO. Either way, that’s the trade off. But at this point in his career it’s probably a smart tradeoff, because the interest in watching him compete is waning.

No absolutely not.

Diego Sanchez reminds me of a girl who did porn but complains that she can't find a good guy to settle down.

You can't have it all, fuck off.

I sort of have more respect for him that he was secure enough with himself to take it when so many would've been worried what people would think of him.

Wait what? He cannot undo what he did and what he did is not honourable.
So what is there to respect? I don't get the logic.

He was fine, could have even taken the full 5 minute break. I hope the UFC matches him with some up and coming savage that just KOs him into oblivion. I never want to see a fighter puss out like that again. Anthony Smith didn't do it vs motherfuckin Jones.

If he wasn't able to fight he wouldn't have been standing up and asking if he can talk to his coaches.

I kinda spelled it out. I respect that he doesn't care what people like you think about the decision.

This is that sissy culture in MMA Stephan A has been talking about.

Instead of calling a spade a spade everyone wants to make excuses for Diego and his piss poor performance and quitting first chance he seen a way out.

Does not mean he has not been a very entertaining fighter in the past but the fact is he quit in this fight.
