From a recent amateur MMA event. I'm hoping to get more details, but the story I've been told is a BJJ guy "didn't want to tap to a wrestler".

Getting your jollies off an amateur athletes injury like this isn't a good look......

Or the moral of the story is, swallow your pride and tap. Especially at the amateur level when there isn't a big title or amount of money on the line.

I had a professional fighter at our gym tell the class a few weeks back "Don't be a hero, tap to play tomorrow."

Yeah let's hope this promotion supplies extra insurance for the athletes like I do! That isn't gonna be cheap!!

I'm glad that this "style vs. style" moron got served, it's the individual that makes the difference.

OK, apparently happened at an event in Philly, a BJJ blackbelt from a Gracie affiliate (don't have exact details, I think the guy telling me is trying avoid names so there isn't too much of a backlash). One of those schools where no subs allowed until blue belt, no neck cranks or twisting leglocks until black, but it's still frowned upon.

The guy who won was a fighter with a good high school wrestling background and had fell in love with leglocks, and visited the gym of the guy telling me this story every now and again to work on his leglock game, especially heelhooks.

IMO if you ever think "This person is a _________ so I will not tap to them," you're thinking too hard.

I'm sure it happened during the BJJ vs Luta Livre rivalry back in the day, at the least.

Jeez , i would hate to train at a school like that.

Marsellus Wallace was right.

F**k pride........ just tap.

Call me a sissy but any leglock will probably get a tap out of me :)

Same here. I had a friend crank a kneebar on me while we were practicing fighting in our teen years for fun, and all I heard was "crunch". It was disgusting. From now on, as soon as someone gets in a good position on my leg, I am ready to tap immediately. They are so nasty, and can mess you up so you can't walk properly ever again.

Wait...what? They don't learn subs until blue belt? Or are they not allowed to roll? I don't understand.

I wasn't sure on that, and I was only going by what I was briefly told. Maybe a focus on positions first, guard passing and sweeps etc. I have heard of some schools even banning the kimura until blue belt.
