Are there any performances that really impressed you from a boxer?
Maybe it was a vet who you thought was well past his prime and he puts on a great showing.

or some guy puts on a boxing display that you didn't think he had in him.

Roy Jones Jr fight with Trinidad was one of those fights for me.
I thought this was going to be a terrible match. It was right around the time that people were high on the "boxing will be dead in a year" march.

Most were saying this was a terrible fight to put on a PPV... two well past their prime fighters that didn't impress too much in fights leading up to this one. Tito having over 2 years off even prior to this fight.
On top of the fact that it was on the same night as UFC 80.
Just seemed like a PPV card destined to fail.

But the fight brought in 500,000 some buys (compared to 225,000 for UFC 80). Which I think surprised most.

But then there was Jones' performance.... probably one of the best that he had put on in years.

Sugar Shane vs Tony is a good example of a guy who shocked people by turning back the clock.

Oscar's performance against Mayorga? he had a long lay off and his last loss was a body shot KO from B Hop. I think a lot of people questioned whether he still had it in him, some even thought Mayorga may actually win. Mayorga was in some very competitive fights with top guys. but Oscar came back after a long lay off and looked great.

Zab vs Garcia - While he didn't win the fight, I thought Zab did really well against a young champ in Garcia. I thought Danny would have stopped him by mid fight but Zab came in and gave Garcia a hell of a fight.

Recently I'd say Maidana against Floyd.

I predicted Hopkins would school Pavlik.

Pavlik v Miranda blew me away.
I only saw Pavlik once before that fight.... he gave McKart a beating. But McKart was on his way out.

Miranda looked like a beast in fights prior to the Pavlik fight. Many think he should have had a win over Abraham in their first fight.

But Pavlik was a machine. Marched through everything Miranda threw at him and just beat the guy up.

I thought Pavlik v Miranda was just a setting to eventually match Miranda with Taylor.

Morales v Maidana is another great pick.

Didn't think Morales stood a chance in that fight.

Morales/Maidana is the best example for this thread.

    Thompson/Price is another example.

Lot of people thought Leonard was gonna get massacred against Hagler.

    Johnson/Green shocked me.

    Hatton against Malignaggi was impressive.

Hardly fought the way he typically fights. Fights and elusive boxer and kept timing him with hooks.

I thought Hatton was going to make that an ugly, clinch ridden fight.... but he boxed damn well.

Despite losing, Molina surprised the hell out of me against Matthysse. Hurting him and knocking him down twice...

Getting in the 11 round after that brutal mortal kombat combination...that was impressive...he made a fan out of me that night.
